  • I don't see how you could have played it differently. AQ is a good hand, but not a top hand. If you do bigger re-raises with it you'll probably just take down the blinds most of the time. But when you get called you'll mostly be in big trouble (AA, AK, KK, QQ) and all blinds won earlier won't compensate for your losses. But I'll raise also if I'm first to enter the pot to narrow down the field and put $ into the pot.

Here the board pairs, a situation that always calls for caution. His behavior on the flop indicates that he has a good hand - he raises but he doesn't want you to go away. The big bet on the turn is more surprising - why don't just proceed with a line that's more likely to induce more calls from you? But this is micro, so perhaps he just lost his patience and shoved.
Two pair with AQ is a tough hand to lay down, at least when there's no flush or straight possibilities and it doesn't seem very likely that your opponent has a better hand. This player was obviously loose (to call with 65). And if he's loose, that also means we can expect him to bluff sometimes. I'm not an expert, but to me this seems like on of those spots when you just have to put your money into the middle and say a silent, little prayer :)

I would have been more inclined to fold, had the board been AJJ or ATT, because even a less loose opponent has a bigger range of hands that would have called and now hit the flop very nicely (for him, that is) (like AT or QJ suited)
  • I like to think of it this way...

My guidelines is 3x - 3.5x the BB if I'm first in the pot, and with each limper in front, I add 1BB to that bet, so at .05/.10 I bet .30 - .35 but if there's two limpers it becomes .5 - .55.

An interesting way to think about it is the more money you put in pre-flop, the more you are relying on variance. AA is something like 88% against any random hand pre-flop, but post flop it's going to require more skill to make or avoid losing money. I like to think my post-flop play is pretty good, so I like to bet on the lower end pre-flop and milk them more post flop.

Of course, this doesn't mean I'll not get all the money in with AA preflop if I can...

  • Unlucky... bet more? No, you put a bet in 6x the bb and he called with 6 high. If anything maybe bet a little less (which would have helped you control the pot size a little more). Chalk this one up as a bad beat. The only thing that might have worked was if you checked the flop. If he then bet, and you check raised with him coming over the top again then I think you'd have to let it go. That is all hypothetical though.
