I hate poker.

So...becoming increasingly (and aware of) agitated at FTP because of the ridiculously choppy game...continual time outs, not registering bets...and lost pots because of.....etc (there were other complaints as well)...I get this..

history:
Fishdonkey here has been catching cards left and right to take people out..behind in the prior three? hands and pushing, getting called, and winning.

/rant. I suck.

  • That sucks. However, you got your money in with the best hand....pretty much all you can do. If you keep doing that, you will make money in the long haul.
  • You paid $215 to play an online tournament and you min-raise preflop?

Also, what do you mean, non-registering of bets?
  • well..I Sat. in...but that is irrelevant...I was actually hoping to get him to play yet again with a crap hand..my image at the table had been very tight. Figured the pot was big enough to take when I pushed it to all in..I realize that I wanted him to call, didn't think he could suck out yet again..

non registering..I would click the box to bet/raise hands...and it wouldn't register at tilt...I was timed out of more than a dozen hands... Everything else on my computer was working just fine, including the other poker sites I tried when this started happening..tried shutting everything else down..etc..other players were experiencing the same thing...quite frustrating. After I was out..I shut down tilt, went to stars and pacific..both worked great. Went back to tilt...same chop.
  • Why did you shove on the flop?

I think that personally is not a good move on your part, especially when the donkey leads into you. You no longer control the pot and basically are flipping for a tourney. The fact that he caught a 2 outer is irrelevant in compared to the way you played the hand.

Effective pot control techniques will help you to avoid getting smashed out of a tourney with a 2 outer.

I use the strategy of not going broke with 1 pair early in a tourney to help combat this.

IMO that play was too aggressive that early on in the tourney.....you are only 2 hours in to a tourney that lasts a good 7..
  • You'd instead call 20% of your stack? Fold?
  • Effective pot control techniques will help you to avoid getting smashed out of a tourney with a 2 outer.

And also make sure you don't get full value from a player that needs to hit a 2-outer to beat you.

Gotta disagree here. If your not folding in this spot it has to be a push. Whether you call or push the end result is going to be the same - you're playing for stacks. So if you've made up your mind that you're ahead, put in in when you have the value.

If villain is leading strong on that flop - your gonna see a strong bet on the turn as well. Very few cards are coming that are slowing him down, specifically with his stack size.

I am pretty sure villian checks the turn with an under pair there. He can't fire another barrel OOP into over cards. Its a standard blocking bet hoping to slow the action down. A call on the flop and a bet on the turn takes the pot down.
  • I agree with you if we have different stack sizes here.

The fact that he called the shove shows he didnt intend his flop bet to be a blocker. I am shoving here based on spewy villain history.
  • Unless villian put him on A high because if you had a monster why would you be shoving on that board???

Does it make sense for you to shove with an overpair on a 447 board? At the end of the day the villian misread his bet as weakness and got lucky.

Won't be the first and won't be the last I guess :(
  • really?!?!

nobody is going to shit on the preflop min-raise?

Seriously blackmagicz, you think he made a blocking bet for 20% of hero's stack? Then followed that up by calling the all-in thinking he's ahead? And he wouldn't be capable of firing a second barrel if you just call the flop?

So is your plan to call and then fold when he miraculously fires again on the turn no matter what hits?
  • As I said..the villain had been pushing and playing absolute trash and catching cards to win for the last several hands...and he wasn't showing any sign of slowing down...I knew I was ahead, and yeah, I did want him to get some money in the pot so he would play with me...just didn't think he would get lucky yet again.

Would I push again against him in that spot? Absolutely. This post was originally made just to rant because I was pissy with Tilt, and the time outs, etc...and then this idiot calls and catches yet another winner..
  • Like I said I don't see the villian firing a second barrel when the 8 comes and if he does I guess I am in trouble.

I just truly believe this is the classic "I think you have AK" bet and "whoops you cold called my flop bet you must have a monster so now I have to slow down"

There are multiple ways to play the hand.

  • Some hand history with this guy..he was getting lucky...two hands prior..all in with AJ vs. AK catches J on the flop...

Another recent prior hand had him with 88 all in push after the flop with 2 paint..catches 8 on the river to win..

Again, I was tilted because of the game, knew I was ahead, and knew he was playing to get lucky...he was playing that pair no matter what..I don't think he cared what I had.
