I trusted myself

Something I am sure we go through at times, get in a zone and feel like your reads are pretty bang on. It's hard to trust yourself in those situations where you have a big hand and may need to make a laydown....

Bristol last night....

Blinds 100/200 ante 25

I raise it up to 700 preflop with AQ
New player (Habs hat)) who I've battled twice and had dominated (AK and AA) calls me.

Flop Ac 2d 4d

I fire 1000
Habs calls

Turn comes another 4h
I watch Habs and he does the old "shake your head no as if that card didn't help you"
I check
He checks

River Qs
I fire a weak bet of 600
Habs re-raises to 1800.

I have about 4K behind so I can afford to make the call however I would be pretty short and would soon be at a point where I was struggling a bit. I announce to the table, "can I really fold AQ here?" A few people giggle as if not to believe me, the other few question whether or not I've taken my meds. I remember what I had seen on 4th and that little voice in my heads says fold. I fold.

Habs shows pocket Aces.

  • That was an excellent read Shannon.

Something I need to do more of is listen to that voice in my head when I got a bad feeling. I usually do something stupid and realize the voice was correct.
  • Great read, gotta love it when you can fight that little voice in your head and go with your gut!
  • I call the river. Half the time I expect to see AK, half the time I expect to see ace-rag and half the time I expect some wierd 4.. I dont bother thinking about AA.
  • Wish I had done much the same in my cash game... woulda save m'self $27 with JJ! :(

  • I think I've seen this hand before.

I hope you did this after you folded (see time ~2:50)

Yes, but then you wouldn't have tripled up with 4-4. ;)
