  • This is one of my goals... To learn how to play this bloody game so I can read HH's of it and it make sense to me on the first read.

Any resources I can use to teach me the basics?
  • AAHobbes [9h, Qd, Kh, 9c]

Folds preflop. This is a hand that will get you into a lot of trouble on the flop with undersets vunerable to straight draws.

On the flop, think about how many outs you've actually got towards a scoop. HINT, it's less than you think.

I'd probably have called the 4.50 raise and then folded to a push if a straight completing high card falls.
  • How did you not lose to someone with Queens or Q-10?

    You seriously Luckboxed out Ron!

Yup I probably did, but at this table I've seen 2pr shown down quite a few times so I guess it was just time to gamble.

    Why just the call?
The pot was limped, so my set is most likely ahead at this point.
Only have to fear 2pr or a str8 draw.
  • Now while I play more PLO than PLO8, I play them very similarily (other than different starting hands). Beware of the guy (me) slow playing high pairs from early position and limping hoping for a raise so he (I) can re-raise. If it isn't raised and both of us hit our set, I'm getting your stack... You wouldn't believe how often that has happened to my advantage over the last while.. As BBC Z says, set over set is the the big money swinger in PLO and I suspect PLO8 as well... Generally in PLO I don't even play hands with pairs below 10's unless perhaps if they are both suited with an A and K. This applys up to at least 25/50 cent blinds.... Above that I suspect your mileage may vary..
  • In order for this hand to be for me you would have had to lose to q-10-2-4 rainbow.

But good for you for doing that thing where you DON'T give your money to the mentally impaired...what's that called again? Winning? Yeah that. :D

Pot size control. You've got like 100% of the deck to avoid on the turn (Any high card completes a straight, any low card puts two to the low on board).

You are really drawing at a full house, but you've killed one of the queens you'd need by having it in your hand.

In Omaha, think about the hand that you need to END UP with in order to win instead of the hand you've currently got. The real 99xx sucks in omaha8 is for this exact situation. You flop a set but it's ultra vulnerable to re-draws and there isn't much you can do.
  • As BBC Z says, set over set is the the big money swinger in PLO and I suspect PLO8 as well

Almost. In O8 you need to avoid getting scooped or quartered. So when you have a one-way hand on a two-way flop (say top set on a two low board), you have to play it cautiously. You can extract value from the low drawing hand, but you also have to be aware that the low could be drawing to a better high hand than you for free.
  • Thanks for the feedback guys.
    Much appreciated.
  • Personally

I liked the way you played it... there's one hand that beats you on that flop, there's drawing hands, so make them pay, and they need runner-runner for the low.

I play KQ99 too, but maybe not from UTG like that....
