Discuss any changes?

With Season 8 about to begin (tentatively Jan 24), it's time to see if there's room for improvement to the game.

Lately, it was commented that after the break, its really starting to have a real bingo flavour. How's the best way to change this? Increase starting stacks? Smaller blinds? Slower blinds? I really don't know at this point.

Also, any other changes or amendments to the current rules will be discussed here as well and put into effect for the new season.

  • IMO the structure isn't broken, just the players have gotten better. I think the tweaking needed may just be more levels. I couldn't find the break down but by memory I think its like this

    5/10
    10/20
    30/60

    break

    50/100

then everything else becomes bingo. I don't how to calculate all that skill factor stuff, but here's my suggestion for a evenly ramped up blind structure

    5/10
    10/20
    20/40

    break

    40/80
    75/150
    100/200

    opt-break

    125/250
    150/300
    200/400
    300/600
    400/800
    etc.

No idea, how long this will take, so if someone out there knows how long a game like this would run, please feel free to calculate it.

    See you all next season.
  • Instead of drawing out the early parts of a tournament when the M sizes are too large, make the middle part, where the blinds sizes create an avergae M of 20 or so longer..

M20 gives people most of the play of M200 but substantially increases the liklihood of bustout, progressing the tournament.
  • I agree with Jeff, in my limited experience there are very few people going out before the break (more skill), which turns into a pushfest when everyone takes essentially their starting stack into 50/100.

Has the start time always been fixed at 8?

Obviously more/longer levels decreases the bingo factor (and thus my chances of winning) but increases the length of the session, which may be an issue for some.
  • I'm glad you asked for feedback AJ. I agree, the blind schedule is definitely causing a push fest once the blinds get to 50/100. The 50/100 jump is definitely a big problem. I like the idea of more gradual and you could always decrease the blind times when you expect the last few players to be remaining.
  • here is a structure that works pretty good in tourny's I have ran.

and you can always start at 7:30 instead of 8

    5-10
    10-20
    15-30
    20-40
    break and chip race ($5)
    25-50
    50-100
    75-150
    100-200
break if players wanted one and chip race ($25)
    200 -400
    300-600
    400-800
