For all you 1/2 fans - what would you do?

1/2 - $200 max buyin - your sitting with $250 and are dealt KcKs in middle position. You decide to just call and hope for a raise so you can isolate. None comes and six players see the flop. Flop comes 933 rainbow. Its checked around to you. You decide to see where you stand so you bet $15. The SB calls and UTG calls. The turn is another 3. Checked around. The river brings a K giving you KKK33. UTG checks. What is your play? Both of the other players have you covered. UTG is been TAG player and not seeing a lot of flops. SB seems to play a lot of face cards and not very aggressive.

  • As ugly as that is, I bet $50 and shove the rest of my chips in (and pray to the Poker Gods) if someone comes over the top.
  • Nobody in a 1/2 game will check quads on the turn and the river. Bet as much as you think you will get.
  • Good point.
They'd be milking it for all they can get here.
  • A push here will ONLY get called by quads, while a pot sized bet MAY get someone with the ace to call you.

Pot sized bet and pray you get called.
  • What ace?

  • Sorry...ANY ace.
  • Easiest push. Ever.
  • I would bet half the pot. Since you were the aggressor on the flop, a player in EP with a 3 could easily check and hope that you bet on the turn or river.

In your second thread about the same hand, you mentioned that they both re-raised all-in after you made a big $50 bet on the river. If you call with your remaining $183, the pot you can win is $756 (250 * 3 + 6). Your pot breakeven percentage is 24%. I will try to get the players to talk and if my reads lead me to believe that there is at least a 24% probability that neither of them has a 3, then I would make the crying call and get ready to rebuy. Unless they are both donkeys and don't realize that their 333KK, 33399, 333KA or 333+pair is being beaten by KKK33 or 99933, my second nuts may not be good enough.

Did the SB turn up quads?

  • am I the only one that thinks the pf limp is almost certain to lead to testicular cancer?

rectify that hole and pay off the quads now.

just mixing up my game and hoping for a raise pre-flop. Sometimes it works, other times it comes back to haunt you.
  • to this day, i dont know why ppl try and limp with a monster hand.....ive seen it too many times AA and KK getting run over by 48os, and they complain about losing the pot.......sounds stupid to me.
  • A cash game book recommends limping in with AA or KK in many situations.

just like limping with any other pair; hoping to hit trips and hide the fact you limped with a monster. If you don't hit, you just walk away and hopefully limit your loses. Just a way to mix up your game.
  • true, problem is several inexperienced players are unable to let go of a hand that big....sometimes even when they know they are beat, they will still play with the hand. i think that is the difference if you want to mix up your game is have the ability to lay down at that opportune time.
  • I Live 10 mins from Casino Niagara. I play 1/2 a lot and i have to agree that nobody there would check quads on the river after checking the turn. Value bet here is everything. You want week hands to call with a 9 or k or pocket pair. The right bet here would definitely get paid.
