Jour de Poker 5 - RESULTS!!!

Even though the summer heat was on, 24 players showed up for Jour de Poker 5, the classic weekend big stack tournament. It took a little less than an hour for our first casualty, "Prophet22" Brent, to be knocked out of the tournament, and away it went. With a smaller number of players that regular Bristol Street games, there were less points to be given out. Our currently leader in the Player of Year race, made everyone happy by busting out on the points bubble in 12th place.

Two players later, "Aiki65" Don was eliminated on the final table bubble and the Final Table was formed..

FINAL TABLE

Seat 1: "Jamal" James ($14,000)
Seat 2: "Ranger" Mike ($8,200)
Seat 3: "Blazin72" Cam ($9,200)
Seat 4: "joeheartsdi" Joe ($6,000)
Seat 5: "moose" Rob ($59,500)
Seat 6: "Dirty Whore" Mark (9,200)
Seat 7: "Zithal" Rob ($13,600)
Seat 8: "peteski" Pete ($53,100)
Seat 9: "Shopsy" Jeff ($67,300)

The table was made up of three huge stacks and five smaller ones, play was under way!!

9th Place: "joeheartsdi" Joe - 9:16pm

Feeling the sting of one of the short stacks, Joe finally makes a stand with A3 to only see Pete call with 55. The board bricked and Joe was the first player eliminated. This finish marks Joe's third final table in a row. Coming into the tournament in 14th place in the PoY race, Joe moves up to 11th

8th Place: "Blazin' 72" Cam - 9:28pm

A heartbreaking suckout by the "Dirty Whore" (Mark's 99 v. Cam's JJ), crippled Cam and so Cam was forced to make a blind stand with 4To, only to be called by both AK and AT. The board came 33552 and Moose andShopsy split was was left of Cam's stack as he was eliminated in 8th place. This was Cam's first Bristol Street tournament of the 2007 Season.

7th Place: "Zithal" Rob - 9:59pm

Card dead was a understatement to the hosts run of cards at the final table. A push with 35o was folded around as it once one of the first hands he played and he finally made a stand in the BB with K7s (it looked like gold!!) against Mike's 99. Bricks fell and so did our tournament host in 7th place. This was Zithal's second final table of the year. Rob has vaulted into the Top 10, though, currently the second highest points finisher with no cashes.

6th Place: "Jamal" James - 10:54 (BUBBLE-BOY)

The bubble was a big one and difficult to burst. Players played carefully, not putting too many chips and risk. After an hour of blinds and three big stacks in control of the event, Jamal finally went all in withQJ and was called by Shopsy's A9c. As with the rest of the eliminations, the board bricked and Jamal was the Jour de Poker 5 Bubble Boy! This, also, was Jamal's first tournament of the 2007 season.

5th Place: "Peteski" Pete - 12:00am ($35)

Starting the final table with a healthy chip stack, Pete ran into a number of unlucky hands. In his final hand, Moose raised with A7, Pete pushed with his 99, Moose called and an A was one of the first cards off. This was Pete's first final table and second appearance in the 2007 season.

4th Place: "Ranger" Mike - 12:12am ($70)

Going into this tournament second in the PoY race, Mike was looking to finish strong to give Kristy a run for her money. A 4th place finish will have to do, after his 99 all-in against Shosy's KT after two tens appeared on the flop. This 4th place finish gives Mike and amazing third cash in a row and fourth final table in a row. There's no doubt that Mike deserves his spot near the top of the 2007 Player of the Year list!

3rd Place: "Moose" Rob - 12:18am ($110)

With three players left it was the two players without pants vs. the one player with. At the 2k-4k level, Shopsy made it 14,000 to go and Moose pushed all in, Shopsy made the quick call with JJ while Moose turned over A6h. No Ace and not enough hearts sent Moose to the rail in 3rd place. The 2006 Player of the Year has been having a slow start to this season, so I'm sure he hopes that his first cash of 2007 starts things rolling again for him. His 3rd place finish moves him from 19th to 12th in the PoY race. With Rob's elimination we were now..

HEADS-UP

"Shopsy" Jeff ($181,500)
"Dirty Whore" Mark ($51,000)

The chipleader going into the final table remained the final table in heads up action and enjoyed a sizable lead against his opponent. But, with a win here, Mark would capture two of the three titles needed for the ?? Shopsy's history in Bristol Street events has been one of early exits, so he was hungry to turn that around here. Both players wanted it, but only one would emerge victorious.

With blinds rising to 3k-6k, the pressure was on Mark to double up and make this an even battle. His aggressiveness finally caught up to him and he pushed with J6d andShopsy found AJo. While Mark picked up a diamond draw on the turn, his outs didn't come and Mark was eliminated in second place for $180.

With this hand won, Shopsy picked up the first place prize of $325, the title of "Jour de Poker 5 Champion" and a guaranteed spot in the 2007 GRAND FINAL this December. Congrats on an incredibly well-played tournament!! This was Shopsy's first cash this year as well as his first Bristol Street Title.

For Mark, this was his second cash of the year and propelled him from 11th place to 3rd in the Player of the Year race!
