Ranger's 2-table WPT Satellite - Aug 11

IMPORTANT NOTE (Aug 2/07):
Given the relative lack of interest and the large number of other KW-area tournaments going on in August, I'm going to cancel this satellite. For those interested, please consider AcidJoe's satellite on the 25th or The_Game's satellites (next one Aug 18 )

2nd Annual Ranger Niagara WPT Satellite - Saturday August 11th

Many people have asked if I am running this again this year, and the answer is yes! This year I've decided to simplify the format and run a one-day satellite format with one or two entries into the Fallsview satellites. Essentially it is like the Niagara first-step satellites but with a lower buy-in and 4 times the starting stack. Plus everyone gets a small share if the winner makes money at the WPT tourney!

Date/Time : Saturday August 11th, starting at 1:00pm (arrive anytime after 12:00)

Location : Elmira, ON (just 5 minutes north of Waterloo)
(Location info will be sent via PM during the week before the event)

Food/Drinks : BYOB, BYOS. There will be a 1-hour dinner break at approximately 5:30pm. BBQ will be available if you bring BBQables.

Other : Players will be welcome to stay after for cash or SnG games.

Poker details

Number of players : between 14 and 18

Buy-in : $60 or $80 (see here for info, please specify your preference when you sign up)

Starting chips : 10,000

Blind Schedule : Blinds will be the same as the official Niagara satellite blinds, but with a cap. Click here to view blind and break schedule. I expect the tournament to last about 8 hours.

Payouts

Payout will be determined by the number of participants, as shown in the table below:
Number of Total First Second Third Fourth
players Pot Place Place Place Place
------------------------------------------------------------
   14 $840 $640* $160* $40
   15 $900 $640* $160* $100
   16 $960 $640* $160* $160*
   17 $1020 $640* $160* $160* $60
   18 $1080 $640* $160* $160* $120

All payout amounts marked with * will require the winner to play in a Niagara Fallsview WPT satellite. Winners of $640 will play in a Step 2 satellite (held on Fridays at Fallsview). Winners of $160 will play in a Step A satellite (held on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at Fallsview). No money/chop deals will be allowed in this satellite.

For more details of the official Niagara satellites, please see below:

Information on Niagara Fallsview website

Share Percentage

All winners of Niagara Satellite seats will sign an agreement which divides a portion of their potential winnings amongst the other players in the satellite. Each player who plays in the satellite will get a 1% share of any winnings from any of the winners who got official WPT satellite seats.

NOTE:
All participants will be required to list their legal name, address, telephone, and email address on the satellite agreement forms so that they can be contacted in the event that they are owed money.

  • sounds like a great time, count me in along with 2 others,

    Thanks,

  • In. Make it $80 and give out just 2 $640 satellites and then we don't have to play once it gets to heads up.

You could always make a deal HU to get a bigger %.

Can't play. My anniversary. I have an understanding wife but not that understanding. :)
  • No that is not the point. Just award entries to one type of satellite. Then it doesn't matter if you finish 1st or 2nd. Also then the satellite winners have an equal chance of qualifying to the WPT. The $160 satellite winner has to win step A and then play a step B satellite to qualify for the WPT. The Step A is pretty much a crapshoot anyways.
  • Sounds like a great idea, Please register me My name is Yama. thanks.
  • I am in and will vouch for yama mike, I know you don't know him.

    I am in for 80.00

  • I thought about a bigger buy-in and two $640 prizes but I was worried that we might not get enough players at the higher buy-in.

How about this, everyone who responds please let me know if you are in for $60, or $80, or either. If we get enough players to fill out 2 tables at the $80 level we'll go with that, otherwise we'll stick with $60.

Those who have already responded, please post again or PM me with your preference.
  • add me to the list
  • I am in for at least $80, or whatever it takes to get two $640 prizes. Ideally, the two winners can go to the Step 2 satellite together and witness each other's result and give a trip report.

  • I vote for $80 and want to play, put me down as tentitive until I can confirm my schedule, weekends in august are a bitch.

Also is it possible to play another tourney with similiar buy in to Niagara's ie. the river room WPT satellite with the money?
  • Hi Mike,

Sign me up! - and I am ok with the $80

  • Joe,

Unless someone on the forum runs a rake-free $640 buy-in tournament with a $10,000 seat to Niagara, I would prefer that the winners play their sat at Niagara as it is the only truly legal option at this point.

Note: I don't want to get into a debate about legalities here...that is just my preference (and prerogative) as the host of this satellite, and people can choose not to play in my sat if that does not suit them.

    Mike
  • As host that is fine, I asked because the RR is a lot closer to me and the structure is a lot better. If I should win and you want me to play Niagara that won't be a problem. I asked first to avoid any issues.
  • Like AcidJoe, I would prefer playing in a satellite that offers more poker play than the casino satellite with a Skill Level of only 2. I will try to play anyway on August 11.

  • Sign me up please. I am happy with either buy in amount.
  • Sign me up please either amount
  • Thanks. I am fine with whatever buy-in you go with.

    ...Steve
  • doesn't look like i will be able to make this event.
  • After talking to one of my employees today who played last friday's 640, If I have to play at niagara i WILL PASS. He said everyone was disappointed with the amount of play at Niagara's tourney. GL to all those who win a seat.
  • Interest seems to be a bit low for 2 tables, so I'd like to find out if people are interested in a single-table (9 or 10 player) tournament.

    Winner take all:
If we have 9 players it will be a $72 buy-in
If we have 10 players it will be a $64 buy-in

For those who have signed up already please respond again if you are interested in the single-table format.

I'll keep a separate list and if we get more people interested in the two-table, we can stick with that format.

For people who are interested in the two-table format and haven't already signed up, please respond asap!

    Mike

  • I'm flexible with any format. However, I would prefer a slightly higher buy-in for the single table and a cash payout for 2nd as well as first.
  • I would prefer a higher buy-in so that first place is for the $1200 satellite which has a lot more poker play (Skill Level 4 instead of 2). Anyway, there does not seem to be enough forum members that have the interest and money to play in ANY WPT satellite, so I think flexibility will be required for those of us who want to have our own satellite.
