    Starting stacks:

    Green - 1000 - 20
    Black - 5000 - 28
    Purple - 20000 - 12
    Yellow - 50000 - 6
    Light Blue - 100000 - 3
    Pink - 500000 - 2

Total starting stack size : 71 physical chips (= 2,000,000 in tournament chips). I'm hoping that by the time we get to 3 players, there will be about 300-400 physical chips per person on average.

Wonderful, will give us a real nice feel to the event we will be watching. it will be like we are right there with them. Any thoughts on a pool for the main event? Everyone picks 5 guys total points wins? 2.00 and entry? We have a lot of smart guys who could figure something out? g2; dataman and the list goes on?

    Can't wait!

That's hilarious! Should be a fun tournament. :) Another small suggestion is to make the 20,000 denomination a 25,000 denomination (it's a fairly standard one). Of course, making it a 20k denomination get's more chips on the table, so that's cool too.
  • You mean something like my deep stack side bet? I'd be in for that for sure. I vote for $5, everyone picks 3 players (final table is 10 ppl, right?). Split the pot 75/25% for top 2 players. Something like...

    1. 15 pts
    2. 12
    3. 10
    4. 8
    5. 6
    6. 4
    7. 3
    8. 2
    9. 1
    10. 0

    /g2
  • exactly, although, I think it should be 5 players to allow for a little more variance in the players being picked. and 5 bucks is good for me
  • Greg, feel free to organize a side bet. I have enough other things to organize! Final table is at 9 players, not 10.

Note: I used 20,000 for purple because most of the higher blinds levels are multiples of 20K, not 25K. So it will be much easier to post blinds and make raises in multiples of the big blind.

Overall it is a bit goofy but I think we'll have a lot of fun!

  • I'm a poolie. I'm in!

Yeah antes - 1/4 to 1/3 the sb, essentially you are putting one BB in antes into the pot.

    41 600,000 1,200,000 200,000
All levels are 120 minutes in length.

In any event, from your blinds, a more natural progression would be 4, 8, 12, 16k. The cost per round jump from the $7k/$14k level (I assume we would have no bust outs yet) goes from $21k to $48k. That's a whopping increase of 129%! A gradual blind increase would usually increase per round by about 40%.
  • OK... so here's my idea:

For $5 everyone picks 5 players in the order they think they're going to finish. Points are awarded based on this scale:
    1st 15
    2nd 12
    3rd 9
    4th 7
    5th 5
    6th 3
    7th 2
    8th 1
    9th 0

Everyone's first pick will be multiplied by 5 times however many points that player earns, 2nd pick * 4, 3rd pick * 3, 4th pick *2, 5th pick * 1. The total pot will be split 75/25% between the top 2 total point scores.

So since I'm not going to be there on time, if someone could please print this spreadsheet here and also fill in the players and chip counts. Then everyone can make their picks when they pay their buyin or whatever. Late players, like myself and the pair of moose, can fill it in when they get there - I promise I won't look up any updated chip counts so I won't have any advantage.

  • I am in this contest
  • Hi,

I'd like to get in on this event if it's not too late. If someone could PM me whether I can make it in or not and give me directions, that would be wonderful.

    Thanks very much,
    Ryan
  • A clarification: we are not using the official WSOP blinds. I created a schedule for this event with very very low antes for maximum play.

    Mike
  • That is backwards thinking. The chip stacks and the structure create play. The antes generate action because they create pots worth playing for without unduly penalizing the blinds.

If you want to create play then increase the blind timings or made the blinds more gradual but if the antes are too low then it will kill the action and become a fold-a-thon.

As I said before, the antes should generate an extra BB worth of chips in the pot. I gave the WSOP schedule as an example to show that they follow the 1/4 to 1/3 of the sb rule.
  • Thanks moose. That makes a lot of sense. I am certainly no expert in blind/ante theory.

As it is a bit late for changing the structure I am going to leave it as-is for this one, but I will definitely take your advice for future tourneys. Given the players involved, I don't think we will be lacking action anyway...

  • Are you posting table draws or waiting til we get there tomorrow. Also I think Shopsy forgot about this, someone told me he was in the Sault Ste. Marie, so I don't know if he will be there or not.

  • Piece of cake. Your blinds are almost an exact match for the WSOP anyways. Just the antes are off. Just use the WSOP blinds I posted.
    36 million chips in play.
    Start at level 17 2500/5000/500. M=2000000/12000=167
    36000000/20 = 1.8 million
36000000/30 =1.2 million which is the cap for the blinds

    10 hrs = 600 min/25 levels = 24 min levels
Make it 20 and add in some breaks.

He used 2000/4000 since he didn't want to have 500 chips in play. And I sorta agree with Mike's not wanting to change the schedule after everyone has signed up. Oh, and I just love to disagree with you moose :D

Because of all this fighting I've decided not to show.......you guys have to ruin everything.

oh and my wife dropped the "if you think you want to play poker 2 nights in a row...then that's your decision" line. Which means I'm not allowed if I ever want to play again. Good luck to all.

My wife says the exact same thing. I go anyways. I get to play, she gets the cash. It's never about the money anyways is it?
  • We'll draw for tables when people arrive.

I've decided to keep the antes as-is. I agree it wouldn't be a big change but I'd rather not change the "rules" at this point.

(Brent, Shopsy posted previously that he had to drop out)

    Mike
  • Well, before anyone picks on me too much, I intentionally kept my antes low for my Sat. tourney too. Mine will range between 1/3 and 1/6 of the small blind. But I tried to stay away from 1/3 as much as possible.

Gives me an idea for my next tourney though - a close simulation of the final 3 tables of this years WSOP.
  • can you let us know what the directions would be to your place.

    tks sean
  • To all:

Looks like we might only have audio coverage of the final table tonight unless there is a "pirate" video feed we can find online (there was one last year)

    Sean (freudianchip),

You don't seem to have PM privileges. Send me an email ( mbrennem@hotmail.com ) and I'll send you my address/phone number.

You're welcome to come just to hang out, but at the moment you wouldn't make it into the tourney unless we have no-shows (which is always a good possibility).

    Mike
  • Another update: Looks like I can order the video feed on ESPN.COM so I will be looking into that as soon as I get home. Cross your fingers...we might have a video feed after all!

    Mike
  • Yep, looks like it. $19.95. Sweet.

  • I should be there on time but if not blind me in.

  • Still don't have a volunteer to print out the spreadsheet and get the side bet started. Anyone interested?

I will bring a printout and attempt to get the side bet started. We'll see how it goes.
  • I have the online PPV running successfully!
