Q about main pot/side pot
A situation came up at the last home game I played at and was wondering what the correct ruling was:
4 handed, 2/4 blinds, pre-flop action:
Player A: sb, all-in for 1.
Player B: bb, posts 4.
Player C: call 4.
Player dealer, call 4.
Player A: already all-in for 1.
Player B: bb option, raise to 20.
Player C: fold.
Player fold.
Player B: takes back 19. Heads up Player A and Player B.
Now this is where the discrepancy came up. Is the extra 8 chips part of the main pot or is there a side pot which Player B would automatically win?
Thanks in advance.

Player who raise to 20 gets his 19 back plus 6 of the 8 chips from the other 2 players.
so Player a who was all in for 1 can only win a total of 4
Actually, I made a mistake in my original post that you caught. There should only be 6 extra chips and not 8.
For some reason I thought the 6 would be part of the main pot since both players C & D folded pre-flop but I guess you are saying that there's a side pot b/c the sb is all-in for 1 and can only win 1 from each player.
You are correct speedmaster. When there is an all-in, a player can only win the amount he went all in with from each player. So since he had only $1... once anyone commits to the pot (ie, calls the blind), $1 of that call goes into the main pot for the short stack, and the rest of their call ($3 from each player) goes into side pot A). So when the player raised to $20, and people folded, side pot A is now $25 (the $9 that was in the side pot A before the raise (rest of BB, plus two callers), and the $16 raise from the BB) so the Raiser wins that side pot ($25). Now all that is left is the $4 main pot.
I have another example I was wondering if you could clarify:
3 handed, 2/4 blinds, pre-flop action:
Player A: sb, all-in for 1.
Player B: bb, posts 4.
Player C: dealer, raises to 20.
Player A: already all-in for 1.
Player B: bb, folds.
Player C: takes back 19, heads up Player A & C.
Now does Player C automatically win the extra 3 chips from Player B or is it part of the main pot?
