Why you should raise pre-flop...What do you do now?

I got myself in a bad situation by not raising pre-flop so now what?

PRE-FLOP
c9871 calls $0.25,
TacticalSekt folds,
NoRushes folds,
uiyweu221 calls $0.25,
liangyu888 folds,
grippenlake1 folds,
BladdOp9 folds,
djsmokie77 folds,
KBRiverRat calls $0.10,
Donk.E checks. I should have popped this up to $1.50 or $2
FLOP [board cards 2H,9D,8H ]
KBRiverRat checks,
Donk.E bets $0.50, nice draw, overcards, probe bet...good?bad? or just ugly?
c9871 calls $0.50,
uiyweu221 bets $2 and is all-in, ok he has a piece of it.
KBRiverRat folds,
Donk.E calls $1.50, I have odds to call, let's see if anyone else comes along
c9871 calls $1.50. Ok, he's likely drawing or sitting on a monster hoping to stack me.

TURN [board cards 2H,9D,8H,3S ]
Donk.E checks, c9871 checks. hmmmm, at these levels it's hard to give credit to tricky play, I put him on a draw here.

RIVER [board cards 2H,9D,8H,3S,QD ]
Donk.E checks, c9871 bets $5 Well, I put him on a draw either a straight or flush draw if he has TJ I'm beat otherwise I feel I'm good...should I have bet here? Hi s $5 seems a bit much here if he has hit his straight, I'd likely throw out $3 here to induce a call if I hit my straight. What do you do here?

  • I don't mind the check pre-flop.. KQ isn't that great a hand, and depending on the site / player, it seems that the kids nowadays are doing the whole "limp with AK / AQ thing"

The flop bet though, I don't like that much for a couple reasons:

A: You're bluffing, sure it's a semi-bluff, but you're bluffing, and there are THREE people to bluff through.. that's a lot. Especially considering you bet .50.. yea yea 1/2 the pot, but if you're gonna bet through 3 people, bet harder.

B: You're out of position, and if someone comes back at you with a hefty raise, you can't possibly call (not the $2 all in, that guys shoulda just pushed PF)

C: You can't count your overcards as outs because of that pesky potential for dominated hand.

D: If you get called - the turn is going to need another bet

    Turn play:

Now they know you're on a draw when you check

    River:

Hmmm.. not a nice card really, you have top pair, 2nd kicker. I would have checked again to induce a bluff, and intended to call if it wasn't too outrageous. The pot is $6, and he bet $5, it feels like a steal after your turn check so I would have called here. Re-raising is TOTALLY out of the question.

Again, reads on the player blah blah

  • I agree with Mark.

Preflop you're fine checking. KQs plays well multi handed.

    Hate the flop bet.

    Think...

You don't want to pay to play a big pot multi handed with K high and a flush draw to *not* the nuts....
  • Wow...

I was so re-reading this and about to click "Quick replY"....

    I didn't realize I already had....

ya lol kids are always slowplaying monsters now, and its very good stratergy based on the blind status. If blinds are high, take the pot right away, if not let someone hang themself.
