Bristol St. Classic XXXI - Results!!

(Sorry it took so long for me to get this out. My Mac died last week, so I've been preoccupied!)

The 4th season of Bristol Street action kicked off in grand fashion has 33 players sat down to become the first Bristol Street champ of 2007 and take an early lead in the Player of the Year race.

Less than 20 minutes into action, late arrival "Dr" Lance held a nut straight and nut flush draw on the turn and was put all-in by "Metro" Tom with his made flush. The made flush held up and Lance kicked off the evening's eliminations.

New this year was the points bubble and now points 15 and over count towards the Player of the Year race, so this tournament, created our first ever Point Bubble finisher in 16th place, "Ranger" Mike, who's short-stacked AQo ran into "Jammer" Don's pocket rockets. Play continued to grind down until the Bristol Street 2006 Player of the Year, "moose" Rob ran out of steam in 10th place and the final table was formed..

FINAL TABLE

Seat 1: "Slippery" Pete ($14,800)
Seat 2: "SeekTheGrail" Steve ($18,300)
Seat 3: "Haddon" Josh ($14,400)
Seat 4: "Mirmir" Miranda ($10,200)
Seat 5: "stpboy" Shannon ($16,300)
Seat 6: "Prophet 22" Brent ($27,200)
Seat 7: "beanie42" Trevor ($11,200)
Seat 8: "Jammer" Don ($13,700)
Seat 9: "Metro" Tom ($8,400)

With stacks so close together and blinds at 500-1,000 (100), it looked like people were going to play cautious for a potentially long Final Table.

9th Place - "Jammer" Don - 11:45pm

The Bristol Street XXXI Final table had one new face and that was "Jammer" Don. Without knowing his style, many people we're cautious to tangle with him throughout the tournament. In his final hand, Don makes it $5k to go, before the flop which Brent calls. The flop comes 348 and Don pushes all-in. Brent thinks for a moment and makes a tough, but correct call as he shows, AT for Ace high compared to Don's bluff, with QJ, fopr Queen high.

The Ace on the turn seals Don's fate and he's the first person eliminated at the final table.

Over the next 45 minutes, the blinds continue to rise and no one gets eliminated. There are a number of double-ups during this time which mean no one's getting eliminated.

8th Place - "haddon" Josh - 12:32am

Blinds go to 600-1,200(200), then to 800-1,600(200), and finally to 1,000-2,000(300) before our next elimination. (For reference, most tournaments lately have been ending at the 1,500-3,000 level).

Josh loses an 88 v AQ coin flip and is crippled, forced all-in next hand with a nice looking AJ. Things look even better as Steve calls with A2 and Tom, in the big blind, is priced in with 82. The flop is TT5 and Josh is still in the lead with only 5 cards that can hurt him. The turn brings one of those cards in the form of an 8, the river bricks and Josh is out in 8th place. It now takes only minutes for the next few people to follow.

7th Place - "beanie42" Trevor - 12:37am

Miranda raises to 8k and Trevor on a very small stack calls all-in and we're racing; Trevor's AJ v. Miranda's 99. Miranda ended up winning the hand with four to the flush, but I believe that a 9 flopped, which also helped.

After a slow 2006, Trevor has a better end to his first 2007 tournament.

6th Place - "Metro" Tom - 12:40am (BUBBLE-BOY)

With one bust out left before the money, expectations were another slow down, but it only took one hand to burst the bubble. Miranda makes it 9k and Tompushes all-in for 900 more. Tom is in bad shape when he discovers his AQ is dominated by Miranda's AK and a K on the flop ends Tom's evening.

Tom looks to be starting another early streak of final table appearances in 2007.

5th Place - "Prophet 22" Brent - 1:13am ($30)

Though starting as the chip leader at the final table, Brent found himself unable to have a hand hold up. (In fact, I'm pretty sure he didn't win a single hand during the final table). At the end, his 44 raced with Pete's AJ. Not only did Pete boat-up , but the board of 57AA7 completely counterfeited his hand as he played the board. A tough final table for Brent, but we expect to see him back soon.

4th Place - "stpboy" Shannon - 1:40am ($65)

Once again, play ground to a halt as the blinds continue to rise, 1,500-3,000 turned to 2,000-4,000 and everyone was feeling the pain. The 2005 Bristol St. Grand Champion, finally made his stand, pushing all-in with T2, getting called by Steve who held K5. No help on the board sealed a top finish for Shannon in this first 2007 event.

3rd Place - "Mirmir" Miranda - 1:47 ($100)

Miranada had an incredible run at Bristol Street XXXI, and, in the end, the deck turned on his. My notes are a little scratchy (so, correct me if I'm wrong), but she first lost with her A7 against Pete's A6 when a 6 came, then got elimianted when her 59 lost to AJ. A 9 on the turn put Miranda aheads, but the Ace on the river sealed her fate.

HEADS-UP

"SeekTheGrail" Steve
"Slippery" Pete

Guess who forgot to take a heads-up chip count.. though I believe that Steve had a small lead. The heads-up match didn't last too long and Pete finally push with J9 only to be called by Steve's K6.

The King on the flop put Pete in bad a bad position, but the 9 on the turn gave him some outs. The river bricked and "SeekTheGrail" Steve wins the match, earns $300 in first place money, the title of "Bristol Street XXXI Champion" and is the second player, behind last year's Grand Champion "SirWatts" Mike, to reserve his seat in the 2007 Bristol Street GRAND FINAL.

"Slippery" Pete, who had a very dissapointing 2006, starts the year off well with a second place finish and $165 in prize money.
