Limit Hand

Time to start posting the odd hand here. This one is far from interesting. But All Aces has been on here a lot lately, and I'm curoius how he might play it pf had it been played differently. I'm on the button and villian who limped stated afterwards he had AK....

So if he raises pf what is your move here? I think a case could be made for more than one option... thanks.

  • first rotation btw, nothing really for reads yet.
  • Villain limped AK? Who limps AK? Is this real money?

GENERALLY SPEAKING (dangerous words when discussing HE) I don't like limping on the button unless there have been a million limpers already. In other words, if one or two players have limped and I have a hand I want to play on the button, I'll raise.

Your play is fine the way the hand played out.

If he had raised preflop, there is a case to be made for calling, re-raising, or folding. That all comes down to how much of a payoff artist your opponent is, and how likely the blinds are to fold to a re-raise from you. If you can get it heads-up with position, and if the initial raiser is a "good" player (ie: he will respect your 3-bet and check and fold a hand like AK if he misses the flop) then it's a good play.

In most LHE games though, esp. 15/30, you have to show down a hand. In this case it's a clear fold if he raises preflop... there aren't enough players in the hand to justify paying two bets to try and flop a set.
  • Yes It's real money, the hh's are crap on Supreme and so are the players :) ,I beleive the guy here.

    Ty for your thoughts!

Limping with AK seems to be the new in-thing from what I am seeing lately in both tourneys and cash games.

I'd agree, especially since (hypothetically) the raise is from very EP. You're praying you're in a coinflip, he misses, and hopefully will get out of your way. 22 is way too speculative to play headsup in a raised pot with an EP raiser.

    I like folding > 3 betting > cold calling.

I actually think given the way the hand played out that the preflop options are more interesting than if he'd raised. I HATE small pairs with one limper (especially an EP limper). The decisions become more marginal IMO. Is he the type to limp a monster? Is he the type to limp a middle pair/small pair? Is he the type to limp suited connected crap in EP? Suited aces? 2 paint? How weak/predictable is he? Does he respect raises, can I push him out of the pot post-flop...etc. etc. etc. In general I probably take the initiative here and raise as you did, but I think folding is also an option. Calling is so middle of the road, I don't like it, I think you want more people in to limp for the set.

    Post-flop is pretty straightforward. NH.
