Tournament I ran

I want to get feedback from people here of the tournament I ran a couple days ago. No one in here played it but, i will give you as much info as i can.

Oh, I am not looking for players. I had to actually turn players away. The place I got had a maximum of 45 people allowed.

It was $90 and $70 went into the prize pool. There was dealers for each table, every table had 10 players and I had 4 tables. I served Lasagna, salad and garlic bread for food. We had bottles of water, pop and coffee for drinks and it was all included with the tournament.

Every player started with 5000 in chips. I offered a dealer add on of $5 for 1000 in chips before the tournament started. Everyone took it, so everyone started with 6000 in chips.
Now I'm not sure if it matters to anyone but, i used Nevada jack Skulls for the tournament. They are really nice chips

The blinds where 20 minutes and where 25-25, 25-50, 50-100, 100-200, 200-400, 300-600, 400-800, 500-1000, 700-1400, 1000-2000, 1500-3000, 2000-4000, 3000-6000, 4000-8000, 5000-10000, 6000-12000, 8000-16000.

Once a table broke up i made a cash game of 50cent-50cent no limit game of $10min $40 max buy in. The rake was 10% to a max of $2.

Any feed back, comments or constructive criticism will be appreciated.

Thank you

If you want to allow for more play in the tourney you could add levels as shown above.

If you want more action in the cash game up the max buy-in.

    /g2
  • Thanks for the input. I might do a higher max buy in for the cash game. For the tournament I was thinking adding a 600-1200 after the 500-100 level and then got to 800-1600, then 1000-2000.

    Thanks
  • Where's Blondfish telling me the patience factor and skill level of my tournament?

    Just teasing you Blondefish.

From the info that I have it's a patience factor of 8.19 and a skill factor of 5.

Once a table broke up i made a cash game of 50cent-50cent no limit game of $10min $40 max buy in. The rake was 10% to a max of $2.

It seems to me you are not making enough money from the cash game and a bit too much from the tourney. 27% if you are keeping the extra $5.
20% seems to be the max acceptable rake at the lower buy ins.

.50-.50 NL cash game seems very small for a group of players that are lining up to pay $95 for a tourney.
I think you could easily play $1-2 NL with only a $40-$100 buy in and not scare any of your clientele. You will rake more money with the bigger pots.

The blinds look great except I would drop the 25/25 level and add a 150/300.
IMO there is no need for a 25/25 level with a 5-6000 starting stack with a $95 entry fee.

All of what I have suggested really means nothing since you have more players than you can handle anyway. Your formula is working.. :)
  • The extra $5 went to the dealers. I offered that and let the players know where the money was going to. So it was 22% taken out.

The next time I'm going to have a 50cent-$1 no limit game and take 10% to a max of $3. I would like to take a little less from the tournament, around $17 that comes out to just under 19%.

I had a break after the first hour and wanted to get the 25$ chip out then. I chose the 25-25 level over a 75-150 level. The reasoning is I find the 75-150 a little slow with having to make change.

    Thanks for your input.

Maybe I'll run my tournament more often and place it on your web site.

I forgot to mention that a lot of guys where surprised how long the tournament lasted. Most people are used to the blinds going much faster.

Markham. I'm lazy as hell when it comes to driving to other cities. :)
  • I deal regularly at one Legion. Why are there so many poker games at the various Legions? Is it considered a charitable organization?

Anyway, "im a clown," I'm interested in your next tournament (unless it's another private invitational).

Do you deal at Greg's Tournament.

I'm going to do one at the same place on Sunday March 18th. This time I'm doing 3 tables instead of 4. 4 was to much for the location.
I'm going to give everyone at my last one first option and then open it up to different people. So I will let the 2 of you know.

I'm going to start doing it at a legion in May. And I'm partnering up with someone else and expect up to 66 players.

  • Like I said before I'm going to ask the people that played last tme first, but if the two of you want to come for the cash game afterward you are welcome to.
It will be a 50cent-$1 no limit. $20min $70 max with a 10% to $3 rake. And there will be some food and drinks (ie. coffee, water and pop) left.

  • Is this the big tournament on Sunday with a $10,000.00 first prize? I have been asked to deal in this tournament with a shootout format where you only have to win your own table to be in the money. :)
