Poker Night Live... cancelled.

  • Hi

Thought I'd just lead my support to save PNL Canada. Although I have never watched the Canadian version of PNL, It's not good for something to be a ratings winner to all of a sudden to stop. If it wasn't for the British version of PNL, I would still be playing on the play money tables.

There is only few reason why I can see it has been cancelled, and it has to do with money, and with whats been happening with online gaming in the USA. You may think what has the US got to do with Canada. Well you may of already know there has been a ban (of sorts) on online gaming in the USA. As a lot of these poker sites have a big percentage of there profits coming from US online players, this is a lot of income these poker sites have now lost, and they now have to make cut backs. Sponsorships for PNL Canada would more than likely of not been renewed as the poker sites just cannot not afford it.

But NegMike is right, If you want to keep PNL Canada, you are going to have to fight for it. Email CGTV and lobby them for it back.

I wish you all the best of luck with getting PNL Canada back on air. If you need a fix of PNL, try www.pokerzone.co.uk for the UK version on at 9pm-1am UK time.

Good luck, and hopefully see you on the tables sometime soon

  • thank you for your support 24Ginger. I am guessing that you have seen my post on the pokerzone forum. For those who dont know the Pokerzone forum is the PNL UK forum. I have a poll going right now. Since PNL is from the UK I thought why not go straight to the source for answers. Please participate in the online poll so we can keep this show alive. Thanks again ginger looking forward to seeing you at the tables soon. Stay good, and all the best this new year

  • Hi, another uk regular lending his support to you guys. I neither have had the pleasure of watching the Canadian show (but I have had the pleasure of relieving Philllivey of his $$ with Quad Js:) ) but I really hope that you can get the show reinstated either on CGTV or on another network.

As ginge says there is always www.pokerzone.co.uk for now, and they have pokerzone on demand there so you can watch some of the UK players being slaughtered on your PC lol

Anyways good luck at the tables and hope to see PNL Canada relaunched soon

  • Here I was focused on me and things happening over Christmas that I JUST found out PNL Canada had been cancelled.

I can tell you that all the commentators will be missed by me. I have learned quite a bit from everyone there and now have no reason to watch CGTV.

If you need me to sign anything or write anything to get PNL Canada back online or TV just let me know.

    :qd :4s a Day :)
  • Please find the following is a response from the site admin. of pokerzone. This is the forum for pnl uk.

    Hi everyone,

Apologies to all our Canadian PNL viewers! The decision to take PNL Canada off air was an economic one made by the channel (CGTV). Officially the show is being 'rested', so it may get approval for more shows in the future.

We realise it was a popular show, and if CGTV do not wish to conitnue with it, another channel may wish to take it on. But nothing has been discussed as of yet, I am just speculating.

Some people have mentioned this came as a surprise to them. This shouldn't have been the case, and the channel are to blame if viewers weren't informed. We must also apologise for not informing forum users of this.

The good news, is that PNL UK is still going strong and there are certainly no plans to take that off air! All you Canadians can of course watch PNL on the Pokerzone on Demand broadband player. http://broadband.pokerzone.tv

Sorry for not keeping people more informed on this matter.

  • Too bad.... Poker Night Live was the only reason I tuned into CGTV..... To be honest I really can't see myself going there again. Most poker games I wish to watch are on HD anyways, so why tune in there. I think this was a mistake. Great seeing you Devo and Jonny T..... All the best!!
  • Well it's not looking good for the UK PNL too. the UK PNL has always been 7 days a week, but now, well just read below

Im sorry to announce that for the next 6-8 weeks our live schedule of Poker Night Live will be temporarily reduced. We have had to make this reduction in live shows because of unforeseen technical delays as we introduce exciting new sponsors to the show.

As of 5th March, live shows will be broadcast on Mondays (Pokerwize),
Wednesdays and Saturdays (both Poker333). Obviously we aim to resume our normal schedule as soon as possible. We apologise to all viewers for this but can assure you that new sponsors will bring a range of exciting new promotions and tournaments to Poker Night Live.

Repeats of the previous night's Poker Night Live will show on Tuesday,
Thursday and Sunday, with Gammon Night Live showing on Friday.

Im happy to answer any questions you may have here
  • You may think what on earth am I moning about, at least you still have PNL in the UK, but I have a very bad feeling that PNL is now in a bad way, on a global scale.

PNL relys heavly on sponsors. If they cannot get a sponsor, then they will just show the previous nights show.

Now what worries me is once the current contracts run out with the current sponsers, what is going to happen then?
  • hey 24 ginger

sorry to hear. Alot of people miss the show up here in canada, but hopefully it works out for you guys.

    Hi Phil.

How is it going with trying to get PNL Canada Back?
  • Just got an e-mail from Doyle's Room and it appears they might start hosting a few tables for PNL starting at the end of this month.
  • Nice one, although I heard Doyles room has now merged into the Full Tilt network. I guess us Brits will see you guys less and less now.

Well Good luck in the future guys,

    24ginger
  • hey Ging

cant believe that news. Hang tough, you have a much stronger support following in the UK than we seem to in Canada. Don't worry some of us will still be at the tables. There is always the Cats vs Hounds matches. For those canadian players that don't know what I am talking about, it is a mtt that brings in 2 teams ( cats, hounds) usually about 66-80 players show up for the games. These are private tourneys, but if you go to the pokerzone.co.uk forum you can pick a side and register for a team. Hope this is ok with you Ging, me giving out the info. We need all the help we can get lately.

    Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Nope, Doyles sent their US Traffic to Full Tilt, but they are still on the same network for non-us.

Yes, although I would love to see some more additions to the hounds

    Woooooooooof

Nice to see you got a seat for the BTP too tonight.

That explains the confusion. Looks like Doyles will also be sponsering the UK show too!
  • The Tribeca network is down to less than 1000 players now that they dumped their Americans. One sng accounts for 1% of all their online players now. lol.

But now the rumour is that Doyle is heading to microgaming, so that brings us back to square one!
  • This is also what I have heard as of yesterday. It was stated on the uk forum, I believe it was anyways, that Doyle's room has an article mentioning a bad beat jackpot. The bad beat jackpot is something offered by microgaming / prima network. That in mind, prima was the sponsor of pnl. I am sure that there were others and to what % I have no idea. All of the adds in the centre of the tables, were prima sites. poker333, stans, betholdem, riverbelle, etc.... So maybe if some of the other prima sites have pulled back perhaps, doyle's room is willing to step up in their place. Its all just rumours and speculation, if anyone knows anything for sure, or hears any new news it would be appreciated if you made a post in this thread. Thanks

    Mike
  • Haven't heard anything else yet about Doyles Room, but if they are changing to Microgaming it could explain why the UK Show has been cut down to 3 nights a week while Doyle and Microgaming get there act together. No point sponsering a show if you vannot have your tables shown is there.

But when I get any more information which may effect the UK and/or Canada PNL I will let you know.

  • Also take a look at pokerwize

I think the tournament today/tonight will be broadcasted on pnl/sky
  • Hi all,

Well after months of replays, this thread certainly confirms the worst.

Why is the cancellation so secret? Let’s see.

It's not the hosts. They were all doing a remarkable job.

Not the ratings ether. Apparently it had the highest ratings on CGTV.

If it was a law reason, we would have heard about it.

Commercials? There were plenty of them. You got to love those fishing ones!

CGTV? I don't think so. It would be stupid.

It comes down to the Prima Network. What comes to mind is contract negotiations. Who was getting what? We know that CGTV had the technical equipment and a crew to broadcast the show and Prima could send the data. If Prima stop sending the data, no more show. What could be the reason for that? Prima was getting new costumers and CGTV was getting more viewers. Hum... It doesn’t make sense. Well, could it be a trust issue? After all, they are sending sensitive information. Maybe Prima wanted a cut in CGTV’s profits and they just couldn’t pay up. Or Prima wanted the same as what the UK pays to get the data and CGTV couldn't. Thats the only reason I can see...

Watching the show made me learn a lot and also made me laugh. It was certainly entertaining.

As for playing poker, you can find me on Absolute Poker and Full Tilt. If you decide to come and play there and beat my ass, register trough my forum, it will help.

BTW, I'm closing all of my accounts with Prima but one (for the freerolls). That should bring thoughts to those Prima %*C&$ >:D

Thanks for all the fun Tina, Divo, Johnny T, Lou and mom.

Yes Pokerwize has been sponsering UK PNL for a few months now. Not many of us Brits like the 3D graphics as it tends to really slow your computer down. If you have RAM of less than 512MB don't bother downloading.
  • REPOM4N,

I don't think it has anything to do with Prima/Microgaming, if it was why did they just stop the Canadian show? Surely they would of also stopped the feed to the UK show to. Of course if Prima was to ask for more maney for the feed, then I could understand.
  • 3d poker is aweful. And its not new news to anyone, regardless of where you live. The following was posted on the UK site ( by another forum member, not me i didnt receive the e mail , i am only copying the post). Anyone with answers please respond.

Hey folks look what I just got in a mailing from Doyles Room:

Tell your buddies you are a TV poker star !
Looking for fame and fortune? Then all you have to do is to join one of the TV tables which are broadcast (with a delay) on www.Pokerzone.tv and, in Europe, Sky channel 843.

Looks like Doyle Brunson is gonna be one of the new sponsors . . .

Does this apply to canadian pnl?

    Thanks

    Mike
  • I wish I knew Mike but I don't. I'm sure Doyles Room, being a poker room previously targeted North American players, still might have an intrest in Canada and set up a new PNL Canada.
