This is too bad. There were some things that could have been improved on, but with the people they had on board I'm sure the show would have evolved. For some reason pnl would not state the sit n go buy in ( I suspect it was 10+1)...which is why you got some of the same weak players night after night.
However, It was a great concept and I enjoyed having the option of clicking on pnl whenever. Good host and all good comentators. I would watch more when Devo was on though because his numbers on the limits he was playing and pounding were out there for all to see.
I did pick up on 1 tell. If it was the last show that I watched on a repeat not quite sure but both Tina and Devo were dressed in all black. As if it was like a funeral or something. If that was the last show then I quess it was a funeral of sorts for PNL. Goodbye old friend goodbye....
I just happened to notice all the response to the recent news. I would like to echo Devo's comments and say thank you for all the support. It was also a pleasure for me to do that show and I will miss working with Devo, Tina, Lou and Audrey as well as the crew and all the other Boardwalk employees. It helped to improve my own game substantially and I'm glad to hear that it helped many of the viewers (I knew this from the countless emails we got throughout the year). I suppose it is better to go out on top, rather than wait for a possible downturn. Hopefully there will be more in the future, but only time will tell. Best of luck to all the players and supporters of the show, hope to see you soon,
Johnny T
Well I guess its true.I just heard last night while playing online. What a shame.First off I really have to thank Johnny-T, Devo, Tina and the other great experts that were on the show, and the players who really helped and taught me alot.I'm gonna miss all you guys very much (what other show can my wife and kids watch and laugh till they pee their pants at the ol' man).I hope we can stay in touch and still meet at the tables I truly enjoyed every minuite of it.
Good luck in the New Year and the future to come.....and remember"Don't let a bad beat get you down"
Johnboy
My place, home game, $100 buy-in w/rebuys and an add-on.
John will try to beat his previous showing of last place. I will try not to beat my previous record of $460 spent on an innocent little home game with nothing to show for it.
dont leave me johnny. I am devastated by the news. Is there a way i can keep in touch with you? i might need you as a coach if i play live. I can also be a host and commentate at devos home game where i can watch you put a gonzoo on him.
My place, home game, $100 buy-in w/rebuys and an add-on.
That's too bad, unless you want to tell us where you live. (but I wouldn't - you'll have philliivey camped out on your front lawn in under 3 minutes)
I did have 2 unrelated questions though for you, Devo....
Question the first: you always said that you love your day job, what do you do? And how do you do it? (you can ignore the second part, I forgot I'm not Will Smith)
Question the second: where does that idiot quote come from? I love it.
Man oh man!!!
Phill is takin it real baaadddd!!
I just seen him down on the corner selling his Philliivey hats to try and raise money to get the show back on,poor guy,he's gonna need alot of hugs in the daze to come.
We still luv ya Philley!!!
Johnboy
I hope my ass gets handed to me Devo! So I can smell it!
Don't stress Phil, we're not going anywhere, I'll give a play by play of the events on pokerforum after I hand my ass back to Devo, and then grab Devo's ass and hand it to him just the way he did it to me...thus doing the same thing, but at the end instead of the beginning, and better.
Yea, you're going down baby!

Hey Arnoldus,
I'm a freelance TV camera operator... I shoot shows like Idol, the Junos.... I have Deal or No Deal coming up in a couple of weeks... should be fun. Howie Mandell is a germophobe so I will try to remember not to try to shake his hand!
That "build a better idiot" quote... I forget where I heard it, unfortunately, but I loved it and stole it.
John, you're a freak. Please stop writing about your ass.
Johnny, whats going on? You sure do seem to be interested in both your ass and devo's ass. Your making us all worried. Is this the Johnny we don't see infront of the camera? Or did sitting in Tina's chair bring about some new changes in you? Either way I dont want to know. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I've been off enjoying the holidays and not playing much poker or reading the forum messages.
I know I will miss PNL as much as all of you have mentioned. I was late to the party, and I didn't know what to expect. I want to thank Tina, Devo and Johnny for welcoming me to the show and really helping me out. For Devo and Johnny it must have been a bit more difficult as I was brought on to provide an different point of view and I really wasn't shy about disagreeing. They were/are top notch proffessionals with a great understanding of the game who helped me out on the show. While we may have disaggreed I know I never questioned their ability and understanding of the game. Hopefully we provided some fun TV and brought out some finer details in the game.
As Devo mentioned we had a great crew who provided awesome support!!!! I've worked with many different teams in the past and this has been one of the best.
While I'm new and haven't been involved in as many shows as Tina, Devo and Audry -- I'm thrilled to hear all the viewer support. I'm really happy we've helped develop a deeper understanding of the game as well as a greater appreciation for the game. And, as Devo mentioned, I have learned from the viewers as well as Tina, Devo, Johnny and Audry. I think poker is the great equalizer where young, old, etc., can play on a level playing field. It's cool to see everyone watching and enjoying.
When I took the gig, I never thought it would be this much fun. I must say, I wouldn't hesititate to do it again! And, I know I'll be on this forum -- so if you need advice just post.
Thank you for making a post in the thread. I would like to at this time thank you because in my original post I forgot to. I thought it was great that at times none of you guys agreed with the other. It brought many different perspectives to the game. Thanks for all of your help over the past months.
But mostly and I think I can speak for Devo on this. Thank you for changing the freakin subject back to something civilized.
Very sorry to hear the show is no more. I havent been able to watch for a while since i dont get rogers any more. I had a lot of fun playing on pnl and learned a lot. I wish the hosts and presenters all the best in the future. I'm sure i'll meet up with some of you at a tournament table before too long.
Gina
Okay,
So I got knocked out of Devo's tourney. I in fact did not hand anything to Devo, although early on it looked like I would (I won't mention what I was planning on handing to him as we have moved on from this). I had couple of bad beats (AJ vs A3) after a good run early on and eventually I made a careless move with A 7 and ran into Devo's AK when I was a short stack. My record is 0-2 at Devo's home game. But I did improve on my previous showing of last place. This time I finished 7th. Devo, would you care to elaborate on how you did?
Johnny T
It sounds like you did hand something to Devo there Johnny. Please tell me they were atleast suited. A7??? against AK. Johnny you handed it to devo alright. YOUR CHIPS!!! Oh how the tables have now turned. That might be as someone i've heard before say ..... Brutal
ohh no did i just pick up on a tell. Was Devo knocked out first?? Please Devin say it ain't so. What went down brother? If you dont tell phil may commit harry carrie.
I finished fifth. After taking 7 or 8 of John's big blinds after he decided to take a weak ace against the entire table, things were looking pretty good.
Then this happened:
We're down to five players, playing 250/500 blinds.
UTG makes it 1200 to go, leaving himself with about 3800 behind. Folded to me in SB holding AJ (5500). I move all-in, figuring the range of hands he could call me with is very slim. He IMMEDIATELY calls with 33, I don't improve, I'm crippled and out the next hand.
I THINK HE HAD ENOUGH CHIPS LEFT TO FOLD THREE FREAKIN' THREE.
Ah well, what do you do. 95% of players would fold 33 in that spot I think, I just got unlucky to be playing against one of the 5% of players who would call, and then I lost the resulting coin flip. Guess he's never heard the "slight favourite/huge dog" theory about calling big bets with small pocket pairs.
This same guy--my best friend Mike--the bastard--called my brother's all-in shortly thereafter with 2 pair on the turn. The thing is, there were four spades out there, and my brother had the flush. (obv.) Mike hit the boat on the river... a four-outer, and that was it for my brother. Sick.
Mike, Al, and Travis made the money and split it evenly.... $580 each.
I hate my home game. At least I didn't spend $460 this time.
When were the blinds going to go up next? in the 250/500 hand against the threes? If it was in the next hand and he was about be forced into the big blind would it be a good place to go? Even if he put you both on overcards? but no pair.
A case could be made for calling with 33 in that spot, but I prefer folding. I'd save my chips and wait for a better spot. I don't think his raise committed him, and the next blind level was 300/600... I forget when it was coming, but it's not much of an increase in any case.
But yes, a case could be made for calling... a case can be made for any decision in poker though... doesn't always mean it's the best decision.
Next time, just lay down a few ground rules before the game gets going. I mean, it is your home game, right?
Devo's rules for a happier home game:
1) no calling my desperate, all-in re-raises with a hand that is ahead of mine
2) if you call me with a hand that is worse than mine but manage to improve, we'll run the board again. If you beat me a second time, I get to give you a wedgie.
These are just suggestions to get you started. Maybe other people have some guidelines that have proven effective. And if your friends don't want to play with you anymore after enacting these rules, then maybe they weren't your friends in the first place.
I was only curious if the blinds were about to go up and I thought the blind structure might be a double up type. 250/500 to 500/1000. The blinds only went up to 300/600 so that would change the basis of my previous thought. Pocket 3's do not look as good anymore. I would fold the 3,3 in the face of a raise and reraise if the blinds were not about to go up and if they were only going up to 300/600. Unless the re raiser was being a bully and pulling loose aggresive crap all night.
I really do like some of the other suggestions though. Wedgie's maybe some knuggie's, full contact poker , a le Devo.

Now we finally know why they used to do the show behind a big desk. There are some mental images that no amount of recreational drugs can erase.
