Poker Night Live... cancelled.
Hey all,
Unfortunately, tonight is the last episode of Poker Night Live... it has been cancelled. It's been a LOT of fun working on this show, and I think that all of the analysis has actually helped my game. So, I feel blessed to have been a part of it in many ways:
Getting to know Tina, Johnny and Lou has been great. They are all wonderful to work with and to hang out with, and they are all great poker players, to be sure.
The crew of PNL has been amazing... keeping on top of the action and keeping me in line... very impressive work from the control room and above.
The viewers have been loyal and vocal. The feedback has been sometimes positive, sometimes negative, always welcome.
Thanks to everyone for making this last year on PNL so special for me. I will miss it.
As for me, I never thought of being an on-air personality as my career path, so I will continue to do what I've been doing for the most part: operating cameras, playing poker, and enjoying life. I will have two extra nights a week available to me now, and I plan on living life to the fullest!
Poker Night Live was the highest-rated show across all three of the networks owned by Boardwalk, so the answer to the question "was it because it wasn't doing well in the ratings?" is "no". This was a business decision that was made based on a number of factors that I won't get into here.
The show will repeat throughout 2007 though, so if you like the show, keep watching... I'm sure there will be some great moments you missed in the past year. I'm sure that the folks at CGTV have other ideas for programming, so this may not be the last you see of us.
Regardless, it's been a blast. Thank-you to all.

Best of luck
Aside from all the great poker info, the banter between Tina and Devo and Johnny is a lot of fun to watch too. I like it when Johnny gets silly and find him very funny !!
Good luck to all of you.
Thanks, but to clarify, this wasn't anything remotely close to my main source of income, so it's not like I'm out of work... It was just a lot of fun to do.
The show last night was interesting... when you know it's going to be your last one everything you say counts a little more, especially towards the end.
I watched it a few times, and enjoyed the conversations/ insight.
On the positive side, MORE TIME TO PLAY!!!!
Amen to that brother.
Lol enough of that. Well I hope you feel you can tell us in the future why the show got cancelled Devo, I mean highest rating show, I assume you and the other personel don't get paid uber amounts, which leaves a huge blank as to why it would be cancelled... Well GL at the tables. (P.S you were one of the best poker commentators i've seen on T.V, I hope you get offered another commentator position. It really does make the difference between me watching the poker or not. If anyone's seen PPT they'll know what I mean)
One of the only reasons to watch CGTV.
My first thought was nice fn xmas present. So now that I have that out of the way, I would like to formally thank you for all of your help over the past year. You are the reason I started playing poker seriously. I am now reading books on poker and even joined a league. I joined at a bad time and have only played once. I will start up again soon as their next season is starting in a bit. I became focussed on becomming a better player and have had many ups and downs. I beleive that I have settled down considerablely from my first days of playing, and am now beginning to fall into my own groove. This is a sad, sad day. I knew something might be up when audrey stopped being on the show. Please do me a favour and thank Johnny and Tina. Please keep us up to date on any new info. Again I am so sorry for the loss of the show and like you said we all know you didnt do the show for the money. Maybe I'll see you on a table - Team Canuck perhaps... talk to you soon , take care all the best this new year....

What next .. more fishing shows?
To Whom it May Concern,
I have just been made aware of the cancellation of the show. Please advise as to the circumstances of this action. It seems odd that a top rated show would be cancelled. We are putting a group together to address this issue. We would like to be made aware of with whom we should be discussing this with and their contact information. If you, or anyone in your firm may be of any assistance, it would be greatly appreciated as it will only be to the benefit of PNL. Many people are very upset over this news..( to which we may in future submit to you as a packaged item(s))......It reminds me of when hockey night in canada didnt renew ron's contract. It was a regretable situation to which I know is not the intention of your actions. Many people have e-mails and letters to send, we need to know where, and to who they should be addressed????
Trusting the above meets with your approval and looking forward to your response to this issue.
Thanks you and hope to hear from you soon
Sincerely Yours

My mailing address will be provided at your request.
who the hell is going to let me know when i'm playing "BRUTAL" poker now!!!!
Hey Devo, the link doesn't seem to work for me.
Dear Mr. Christison,
Thank you for your letter of December 26th.
Unfortunately yes, “Poker Night Live” has been cancelled.
Hence, there will be no additional original productions of the series.
We will be featuring many of our great shows with our hosts’ and experts for some time to come on CGTV.
I am confident that there is an ample supply of this informative series to satiate your enthusiasm for the series.
Please stay tuned to CGTV, as the coming New Year will feature some new and interesting creative productions, which I hope will fill your viewing time with engaging gaming programming.
Again, I appreciate the time you took to write your letter and express your views to CGTV.
Our viewers are important to us.

He seems keen to continue producing Canadian poker content... hopefully it involves me! And of course Tina and Johnny and Lou.
I'm not feeling the loss yet, but I expect that--in a couple of weeks--I will be at home feeling an urge to put on make-up and a blazer and talk about poker for two hours...
the one good thing going in my life and it is gone.
again i am very upset at this and is it possible to get yours and johnny t, lou email so i can keep in touch. I would love to see you guys in action and kept updated on online and live tourneys you will be playin.

I'm compelled to ask again why, oh why, was the show cancelled? And why didn't anybody mention this on the air? I'm all ready to go to war over bringing the show back, but if we all go charging in without the facts, we likely won't get very far. And what will CGTV do with an extra 6 hours to fill every day? (Please don't let it be anymore John Patrick with his advice as timely as his hairdo). PNL really was the only show worth watching on CGTV - let's be honest here.
I'm not sure what else to say right now and to curb my rising anger I'll just state the obvious: loved the show, devastated to see it go. Devo, your brutal honesty was both informative and just plain funny, and I invite you over personally anytime you feel a need to talk to someone about poker for 2 hours. (We can even break every ten minutes or so to talk about fishing or soccer).
This cancellation will leave a void, not only in the programming schedule of an otherwise useless cable channel, but also in the hearts of all the people who know: there's always 2 sides to every NegMike; that you can't beat philliivey when he's holding Jacks; that if you're not careful, 78 will easily put you on tilt; and that if Ysbryd-Y-Nos had two undercards to your overpair, you're about a 3 to 1 dog.

We didn't mention anything about it on the air because the show will be repeated. It's kind of like how we don't mention Christmas, Hallowe'en, etc... to make the episodes "timeless". (We slip up sometimes though... can't be helped when you're talking for two hours.)
If you look at the last episode though, there are definitely indications for those "in the know". For example, when I said: "You know what, for no reason in particular I'd like to thank the crew of this show..."
The very last moments of the show were... different... somehow as well.
As for why the show was cancelled, I'm really not at liberty to say. The big wide world of business, I suppose would be about all that I can say about it. Sigh.
The format is one of the best I have seen. An interactive training program that allows you to review your game as it is being critiqued by experts. What a great idea (AND IT IS BEING CANCELLED..I DON"T GET IT)
I know the continuation of the show would continue to expand peoples poker skills. I commend CGTV for bringing forward a great idea of interactive gaming such as Poker Night Live that challanges, trains, critiques and entertains participants, and spectators from the comfort of their homes. I do hope CGTV reconsiders their decision.
I want to personally thank Tina, Lou, JohnnyT and Devo for all your assistance and also thank all those I played with on a regular basis as they are also one of the reasons I played the game. The regulars also helped me learn as they became more skillful and challenging to play.
Thanks Guys and all the best
respectfully submitted
