Changes for Bristol Street in 2007?

  • Yeah Jackpots!

I like round numbers and the quads will hit much more often than the other two so I'd suggest you break it 8 ways ($0.25 per jackpot). Otherwise the Quad jackpots will be small and and the flushes much larger. If you divide the quads up more they will be hit less often (plus you get nice round numbers).

    RF, SF, AK, QJ, 109, 87, 65, 432

    or

    RF, SF, A, K, Q, J10, 987, 65432
(if you don't want people chasing low pairs as much to hit the jackpot)

$0.25 increments also makes it much easier for people to figure out how many people have paid into the jackpot.

Odds on getting a hand in a 5 card game:

    Royal Flush 1 in 650, 000
    Straight Flush 1 in 72, 200
    Four of a Kind 1 in 4, 200

I don't know about the showdown rule. I mean if you hit your jackpot how can you bet without risking everyone folding? Therefore anyone betting with 3 of a kind on the board, must NOT have a jackpot. If you have a jackpot and everyone folds, shouldn't you just be allowed to expose your hand and collect?

Imagine, in your example above, a Royal and a SF hit at the same time (it did happen to me and TNorth at one of Beanie's tournaments) or two SF's. No one could possibly bet that, so both hands get checked down. Whereas in reality, someone should be getting stacked on that hand (however you would be getting compensated by the jackpot). I don't think you want the jackpots affecting play on the tables.
  • I like jackpots as well and agree with Moose that you should be able to show it at anytime and not have to showdown if you hit a highhand. That's the way they do it at most casinos.

    stp
  • Both suggestions (8 way split for the math, not needed to show down card) are both reasonable.

I was trying to think of all the exceptions that could get hit and I got these ones...

    - If Quads are hit, on of your hole cards must be one of the 4 of a kind.
    - If two SF's are hit, only the higher one pays.
    - If a RF and SF are hit, both jackpots pay out to the respective players.
  • - only the higher quad pays (unless they are in different categories) eg quad 2's and quad 3's in the same hand (one winner) or quad 2's and quad A's (two winners)
  • Given that the first event of 2007 (our 4th season!) is less than a week away, I thought I'd update this with the stuff that's changing for '07. Nothing too major here, but I should post it regardless...

    - Points Bubble - There will be a points bubble each tournament. Anything less than 15 points will be counted as 0 points. I did this to my spreadsheet for '06 and the changes were very minor. (A couple people moved down 2 or 3 places) It'll make my life a little easier.

    - Hand hand jackpots - An optional $2 will be collected at the start of any Hold'em tournament where points are awarded and will be split between the 8 different jackpots; Royal Flush, Str8 Flush, Quads: A, K, Q, JT, 987, 65432. A minimum of one card needs to come from your hand and you don't need to show down to win.

    - Legend will return, but it will be a fall event; events will count for points, and I'm hoping that by holding it in the Fall, I'll have the Lengends '06 complete. Heads-up will also return in the summer with a more structure and enforced method of playing matches.

    - The website and "Hall of Fame" WILL be made this year. :)

    - Everything else is pretty much status quo (including the 18 player invitiational GRAND FINAL)
  • I thought of another funky one:

I assume that if you hold Ah2h and the board is

34567h that the jackpot doesn't pay?
