what stacks to steal from

What stack size is the best to steal from? I've heard you're supposed to steal from the middle stacks, but what are the middle stacks? 10-20 big blinds? 20-30? Or something else? Or is this not a major factor in your view?

There's big stacks, and there's little stacks... then there are middle stacks. What I'm saying is, look at the other stacks at the table... not relative to the BB. Unless the BB is huge, then everyone has a small stack

As far as who to steal from... I steal from anyone who I think I can steal from. And that's just about everyone!

middle stack are considered average stack sizes. i.e. chip leader average stack (around the same as everyone else) and Low Stack

The type of player is much more important. From his play, have you noticed he often defends his blinds or folds all but premium? If its the latter, this is the ideal player to steal from, because a few BB raise will take it down the majority of the time and allow you to muck to any resistance.

When dealing with short stacks in the blinds I'm more hesitant to steal with iffy hands, as they are much more likely to play back for their stack (unless its bubble time in which case I pound these players orbit after orbit).
