Bristol St. Classic XXIX - Results!!

With only a few more events left in the 2006 year and a tight Player of the Year race, twenty-four competitors showed up for Bristol Street Classic XXIX, a $5 unlimited re-buy event.

Some players invested as little as $15 into the event while others paid... a little more. Only an hour into the event, our yet to be nicknamed friend, Nicole, succumbed to the pressure of the re-buys and exited the tournament first. With the "2006 Legend of Bristol Street" Kevin's exit in 10th place, action was set for the final table.

FINAL TABLE

Seat 1: "PokerQueen" Mandy ($21,700)
Seat 2: "thebus" Chris ($7,000)
Seat 3: "Zithal" Rob L ($37,100)
Seat 4: "Hollywoods" Cole ($21,700)
Seat 5: "WPT" Steve ($21,00)
Seat 6: "moose" Rob ($18,900)
Seat 7: "ItsaMe" Mario ($18,800)
Seat 8: "TNORTH" Tom ($20,700)
Seat 9: "Snowflake" Dave ($25,100)

With blinds at our brand new, 500-1000(100) level, there was still a lot of play left in the stacks and the table settled in for a battle.

9th Place: "ItsaMe" Mario - 11:31pm

Mario called a small raise my "moose" and both players saw a board of 766 with two spades. All the money went into the pot with "moose" holding AA and Mario 9Ts for the gutshot straight-flush draw. None of Mario's 12 outs materialized and his was crippled down to 900 chips. After one triple up, Mario then lost the rest when A9 ran into Steve's AT. This was Mario's first Final Table of the year and best to date 2006 finish. Mario's hoping for a few more events to try and work his way into the 2006 GRAND FINAL

8th Place: "Hollywoods" Cole
7th Place: "PokerQueen" Mandy - 11:53pm

A few hands before this triple elimination, Tom found himself crippled down to 1,000 ships and found himself forced all-in on the BB with QQ. That held up and he went on to increase his chip stack with a few more double ups.

In late position, and on a short stack, Cole pushed all-in and was called by Mandy. Chris then re-pushed and Mandy called to create a three-way all-in situation pre-flop. Chris held AQ and dominated both opponents as Mandy turned over AJ and Cole showed KQ. The board missed everyone and Chris scooped a MONSTER pot with Ace high. Mandy, having more chips than Cole, finished 7th.

6th Place: "Snowflake" Dave - 12:04am (BUBBLE-BOY)

The lone remaining Milton Rock would be our BSC XXIX BUBBLE-BOY. Holding KQ, the Q99 looked excellent and he got all his money into the pot, but Chris held AA, continuing his streak of hot card. The Q on the flop would be the only one that night and Dave was out in 6th place. Also know on the board as "ddmilcan", This was Dave's second 2006 event and first final table of the year.

5th Place: "Zithal" Rob - 12:25am - ($40)

After unsucessfully using his large stack as a battering ram, "Zithal" found himself back in the middle of the pack and completely card dead. Having not won a single hand at the final table, he finally pushed with 55 and Chris, gave him the pity call in the BB with the dreaded K8. Kings up was the final board and the final tables original short stack went the table's original small stack packing in 5th place. This was "Zithal"'s third final table of the first and first cash of 2006.

Rob's finish moved him from 18th to 14th, to give him slightly more breathing room to get into his own GRAND FINAL.

4th Place: "WPT" Steve - 12:29am - ($85)

Only minutes later, Steve made his stand with A7, but ran into "moose" QQ. The Q in the river drove the final nail into Steve's coffin. Steve was the Bristol Street Omaha Open I champion and his seat is already waiting for him at the GRAND FINAL. (Though word has it that he may be previously enganged on that day.) :(

Still, a 4th place finished moved Steve from 9th place to 6th, in the Player of the Year standings.

3rd Place: "Metro" Tom - 12:36am - ($130)

Giddy to make it this far after being crippled to less than a big blind, Tom pushed his money in with Q7. Chris called with KJ and a K on the flop sent Tom home. Tom, the winner of Jour de Poker 4, made his 5th appearance at a 2006 final table and his finish tonight move him to withing 7 points of the 2nd place in the Player of the Year standings.

HEADS-UP

"thebus" Chris - $120,000
"moose" Rob - $62,000

It was the battle of new vs. old. "thebus" Chris in his first even Bristol Street appearance (though he lives further down the road on Bristol St.) against "moose" Rob who was the current Player of the Year points leader, a two-time 2006 champion and looking to make it a third.

The heads up battle lasted a good 20 minutes and, early on, Rob's top pair defeated Chris's flush draw to switch the 2-1 chip lead into Rob's favour. On the final hand with all the money in pre-flop, Rob flipped over AJ and Chris showed AT for a commanding preflop lead. The flop of 24K kept Rob in the lead, while a J on the turn seemed to seal the deal. The J, however, gave Chris a gut-shot straight draw, but it didn't materialize and Rob wins Bristol Street XXIX, becoming our first THREE-TIME Champion (XXVI, XXVIII, and XXIX) and our first back-to-back Bristol Street Classic Champion. For his win, Rob picked up $395 and a good number of points in the Player of the Year standings.

Since there were only 24 players it was not as much as a full win, though this puts added pressure on Tye to finish 1st in the Heads-up tournament to keep this race close.

"thebus" Chris, in his first Bristol Street showing, picked up $220. A excellent run at the final table for this player!
