Woo Freakin' Hoo (Shameless boasting)

I won event #1 of Holiday Poker at the Commerce Casino.

$149K.

This came at the end of a week in Disneyland with my family. Now THAT is a cool family vacation.

As of this moment, I am mortgage free. And, my wife is not mad at me about anything... although that will last for 24 hours or less, I suspect.

Working on full report for my blog at www.CanadianPoker.com

  • Awesome! Congrats Dave!!!
  • Sweet cash Dave! So does this mean that CPF members are going to get a major discount on the Team Canuck schwag?

How much adrenaline was going? Do you think you were on your A-game through the entire final table?
  • No adrenaline problems at all. Very calm.

On Sunday I wore the same clothes on the plane that I wore at the final table. No poker stink at all.
  • Well its about bloody time!!
    Awesome work Dave!!

  • The whole tournament report is in my current blog at www.CanadianPoker.com
  • At three players it was (about) 500K for me. 200K for blue shirt. And 800K for Moti. A lot of pressure to make a deal … I am guessing that the locals at Commerce usually do. I kept saying “let’s play a couple more hands.” Lucky me, Moti eliminated blue shirt and it was heads up. Moti $1 million and me $500K. Moti turned to me and said, “Let’s split it.” I said, “50/50?” And, he said, “Yes.” So… we were about to do that when he friends and family all start shouting, “No no… percentage split.” I look at them (and Moti) and say, “Equal split or no split.” Moti says, “Let’s play.” OK.

    NICE
  • Holy freaking crap -- awesome stuff. And to think you were thinking it would be a disappointing return.

It's when you least expect it that all the preparation comes into play. Fk the wsop -- well not really -- but this is awesome.

Good luck in the next tournaments and remember it's what have you done for me lately as the new players don't know about this big win.

    Cheers
    Lou
  • I have no desire to return to the WSOP. Been there, done that.

Canadian tournaments are much more likely to attract my money.
  • Great job Dave and great write-up... Cant beat it when you are on vacation and you make a cash like that
  • Congrats on your win!

Just wondering, how much do Canadians get taxed on a win like that? That's one thing I was always curious about.
  • In Nevada they withhold 30% federal tax. In California they withhold an additional 7% state tax.

A quick recce of the situation shows that I have about $40K in expenses and losses and this will result in a refund of about $25K. So I will be leaving $25K with Uncle Sam.
  • Well Done! That was a pretty good field I see as well...congratulations.

    Bill
  • Those pictures on the your site are amazing! That must have been a tremendous feeling...
