Bristol Street Classic XVIII - Results!!

Bristol Street XVIII

Though it's been awhile, Bristol Street XVIII kicked off this past Wednesday a string of events that will take place in the month of November. 32 players, plus an alternate, started at 7pm with blinds of 25-25, and the action started fast. In a battle of new players to Bristol Street, "boo2you" Troy was eliminated by "Maverick" Diane when his KK failed to hold up against Q2.

As action played out, the blinds increased quickly and we reach a point where the short stacks kept doubling up and few eliminations happened as everyone's M grew smaller and smaller. Finally, at 11:35pm, Johnnie H became our 10th place finisher and we formed the final table.

FINAL TABLE

Seat 1: "Morty" Sean ($16,000)
Seat 2: "King Mob" Dave ($9,900)
Seat 3: "Kristy_Sea" Kristy ($30,800)
Seat 4: "Westside" Wes ($15,200)
Seat 5: "moose" Rob ($9,100)
Seat 6: "Metro" Tom N ($16,500)
Seat 7: "sstar" Sean ($4,200)
Seat 8: "Big E" Eric ($9,000)
Seat 9: "pkrfce" Greg ($21,900)

With blinds starting at 800-1,600 200ante, everyone felt short stacked and expected a number of eliminations early on. Eleven minutes later, the blinds rose to 1,000-2,000 (300), and we still hadn't dropped a player. The blinds then rose again, twenty minutes later, and it took the last hand of that level to lose our first player.

9th Place: "pkrfce" Greg - 12:15am

Coming to the table as the chip leader, Greg pushed some chips around (on a single rack), and found himself on the losing end of several races. He pushed his final 6k in with A5 and was called by Sean(?) who held KQ. A King on the flop ended Greg's evening. This was Greg's first appearance at a 2006 Bristol Street event. Great to see him back!

The blinds then rose to 1,500-3,000 (500) as we raced off the blacks. With 8 players left, the average stack was $16,500, meaning the average M at the table was 2. Obviously, something had to give and starting at 12:30am, we lost 4 players in the span of 7 minutes.

8th Place: "Big E" Eric - 12:30am

Eric put the rest of his money in with A5 who was far behind Wes's cowboys. No Ace materialized on the Board and the Big E exited in 8th. This was Eric's first final table at Bristol Street and his second 2006 appearance. Let's not discuss his first. :) Great job!

7th Place: "Kristy_Sea" - 12:33am

The late hour was wearing thin on everyone, and Bristol Street first-timer Kristy was the next victim. Pushing $15,500 into the pot with Q9, attempted to steal a round of blinds, her hand was caught by "moose" Rob who woke up in the big blind with TT. Once again, no help came and Kristy was out in 7th as Rob's stack continued to gain momentum.

6th Place: "Metro" Tom - 12:35am (BUBBLE-BOY!)

With Tom down to an M of 0.5 he called a 10k raise by Wes with 78s. Wes had his own suited connector, showing JTc and sent Tom packing. Coming into the tournament, Tom was 2nd in the player of the year race and hoped to add enough points to his total to catch the current leader, "8Ball" Tye. This appearance marked Tom 5th appearance at the final table, which included his victory at Jour de Poker 4.

5th Place: "Sean" morty - 12:37am ($30)

Another of the small stacks, Sean hoped to double up once and get back in the tournament. Unfortunately, that plan came to and end when his A7 ran into Wes' A9. The seven was the first card off the flop, but was quickly followed by a nine. Three 2's follow on the rest of the board and Wes' 2's over 9's defeated Sean's 2's over 7's. With a string of mid-place finishes all year, it was great to see Sean in the money and the points boost should put him within striking distance of making the Grand Final!

4th Place: "Westside" Wes - 12:53am ($65)

With the average stack having double in the last seven minutes there was now a little more room to play the game and we started seeing flops and non-all in moves. It would take 15 minutes and a blind raise to 2k-4k (500) before our next elimination. Wes had a very up and down final table seeing large changes in his chipstack and was finally put to rest when he lost his 3rd or 4th race in a row as Wes' 55, failed to hold up against Rob's AQ, when an Ace come on the flop and a Queen added insult to injury on the river. Coming into the PoY race in 10th place, a third place finish eliminates one of his 11 point score and propels him into the Top 5. This is Wes's third final table and third cash of 2006 finishing 3rd and 4th in previous events.

3rd Place: "King Mob" Dave - 12:59am ($100)

With Rob's stack growing out of control, Sean and Dave battled to avoid third place. Dave aggressively kept pushing his chips into the middle and built up a stack of about 25k, before his A8 finally fell to Rob's AQ. This third place finish rockets Dave from his 17th position in the PoY race to 6th overall. Congrats!!!

HEADS-UP

"moose" Rob - $119,000
"sstar" Sean - $13,000

With that size of a chip lead, Sean's next hand was played for him. A push all-in was called and Sean's AT was met with Rob's 77. The 7 that appeared on the turn ended the hand early and "moose" Rob becomes the second player to repeat in 2006, previously winning Bristol Street XXVI. With this win, Rob gains significant points and is now in the lead. With Tye guaranteeing at least a 3rd place finish in the Heads-up match, we will now have one hell of Player of the Year race as we head into the final few weeks of the season. Rob takes home the title of "Bristol Street Classic XXVIII Champion" as well as $300. The runner-up, "sstar" Sean recieved $165 for his troubles. With a previous third place finish Sean has rocketed up the charts in only two appearances and debuting at 17th in the Top 20 and is easily on track to an invite to the GRAND FINAL.
