Is it just me or does it seem like less and less people are playing mixed cash games lately. I’m finding it incredibly difficult
I think less and less ppl are playing poker in general

Yeah, not a ton of players for the mixed games. NLHE all night is just so boring. Also sucks that casinos can barely even get a PLO game going regularly.
It doesn’t help as well that a couple of the regulars who would’ve come had plans on Saturday night. There also seems to be a reluctance for some people to drive very far for a game. It’s really too bad. Trigs runs a great game, good place to play. Hopefully we’ll get enough the next time. Or I’m guilty people into coming. ;)
Trigs is a very generous host despite him not allowing me to win a hand in his house. I don't believe poker is dying off. Mixed games are a little intimidating when you first start. Preflop equities run much closer than holdem, therefore you need to ride out variance and in my opinion improve post flop play. It's on the mixed game players to invite new players, make them feel comfortable and discuss strategies. Only then will new players understand that Mixed Games Rock! Anybody on the fence, sit next to experienced player willing to discuss strategy and learn how much fun 4+ cards can be.

PS Trigs meet some players from Hamilton.
Alot of NL players I know don’t like the amount of uncertainty in mixed games. They just want to play their pseudo-GTO holdem and grind out their +/-1.5bb/hr and not have to think too much.

Trust me, I am trying. I literally don't know anyone through work or friends that even plays poker at all, let alone mixed games. Got some students who'd probably play, but might get fired for that lol.

At least there's been a couple new games in Hamilton popping up on the forum as well, but they'll only play NLHE :s

Yeah, I think it's the variance that scares most new players away. But the variance is what makes it so fun!!
No variance in Paris. Saturdays game played pretty straight up. 😁

I’m one of the tightest players out there in hold em, but I love the mixed games. As Woog said, people need to come out and learn the games. I literally learnt sitting at Moose’s poker table with Roger and moose teaching me.
I know things tend to go in waves. But after 18 months without missing more than a game or two, I’ve cancelled 50% of games since August. Just seems like an odd trend
Probably doesn’t help that I don’t usually have Saturday as an option 😜

Ryan, After only playing a couple times at your game, I get the feel that hosting Friday with a portion of your player pool that enjoys the Tavistock tournaments which are also on Fridays is tough. I would also say, allowing players come in at 11-12 pm and split your game from 1 table to 2 short handed games is not something I would do.

Ya, that was a failed experiment
Trigs drove all his players away with his tomato bread pizza.

Split pot games are lower variance.

Hey! That was like only two players, though they both left poker completely ;) Mike and Cory are always welcome to my games.

Two of the three games are split pot tomorrow!

And why did they quit poker? Tomato bread pizza.

But his chili is to die for... Oh wait, maybe.... ? Mike, Cory, you guys ok?
I will say I've been legit trying to get out to Trigs' game...

I don't know that I have the "street cred" for playing mixed games, though I am fairly comfy playing them, within reason. I do think that some folks may not enjoy the idea of an open "dealer's choice" option where any bonkers game can be called. I know I'm not interested in playing some games with wild cards and such, but Omaha variants, stud variants etc I'm generally okay with. Also, some folks may not love the straddling aspect. I know I've heard some (admittedly fun) stories about straddles hitting dozens of dollars pre-flop, and that's a fun story, but as someone that rarely straddles (again, not that I much am bothered by it), as a host I have definitely had people asking on both sides of the coin about straddles and types of games.

If there was like a roster of games, with the understanding that some variation may be in play as well it may be a bit more inviting? (e.g.: Omaha may be 5 cards instead of 4, or Bomb pots may be 5 cards kinda gig). Also, this is a tough time of year to get people out to play... the game I host has filled up more often than not, but just a couple weekends ago we barely hit half full.
