Hi All,

My name is Sam and I'm assisting in getting the Ontario Poker Tour off the ground. We're poker players trying to fill the live tournament void in the province.

This is a start-up tour. We are going to be working diligently over the next 6 months to make sure things run smoothly at our inaugural event (April/May 2020) and beyond. Any and all advice/tips from you guys would be appreciated. So far, the community has been extremely supportive.

We have been in talks with several casinos in the province and the plan as of right now is to have 3 events next year.

We are aiming to run 3 tournaments per event with the possibility of including a high roller if the demand is there.

-$220 Opener
-$550 Main Event
-$220 Closer

-$1100 High Roller*

There will be a player of the year rewards system.

Appreciate the response. Can I get a better nickname than the mattress, though?

My last name is Desjardins. I'm a long time live cash/tourney player from Halifax that splits time in Ottawa. I'm quite certain that I'm not a well known name in the Ontario community.

In terms of credibility in the poker scene, I have none at the moment. I'm just a fellow player like most of us here. Take what you'd like from that.

We started this because I and many of the people I've played with were tired of travelling so much for tournaments and limited in options domestically. Decided to use outside experience and love of the game to build something for the players here.

I play mostly cash. However, the tournaments I do play are mainly local (Casino NS/NB, Lac-Leamy, Playground) non-branded events and probably aren't picked up by the Hendon Mob.

Considering playing the WSOP-C at the end of the month. So if I cash maybe you'll be able to find me.

Well I'm the owner and admin here so I think I can answer.. There have been so many scams and the sort tried through here that there is a lot of skepticism and rightfully so. For now we'll let this ride and see what sort of places you run them in and just as importantly what you are raking... If anything that makes it illegal here in Ontario at least. We locally, GTA west, have quite a good choice of unraked games, both cash and tournaments. As well as Niagara which has significantly stepped up their game.

Will watch with great interest..

Of course nothing “nefarious” as you haven’t asked for money or tried to sell anything. But, suspicious.... yes.

If this is out on the east coast I guess it is possible but in Ontario (the province you name your tour after) the government would not ever allow you to run a tournament in a casino.

Also, just aside..... the O.P.T. Is a very well known group run by a real nice guy with a great reputation and he has been running since about 2005. Again I am sure you using the same abbreviation without knowing or without any malice.

All the best in kicking this off just dont think there is much traction behind this.

Casinos saying its a good idea and theyre open to the idea is different then their bookings/commitment. Since OLG still governs casino play and im assuming if this is a business opportunity youll have to apply for a gaming license which from what I understand is not easily obtainable.

I think your timing is a bit off with Ontario poker room closers and Niagara taking the leap with their own NSOP tournament series.

Again, all the best but from knowing some of the players on this forum - We will believe it when we see it.
