just keep hammering on that 'reply' button...
why can't i see the 'fish' icon? or the rage, heart, spade, diamond or club???

In the default view, the smileys are just above the reply box. You may need to click "more" to get the full set of smileys.
Also verify that you have set your Current Smiley Set to "Default" under
Profile -> Look and Layout Preferences
