Here is an update our our great trip.
We left 7 am on July 5th knowing it was an 8 hr drive with kids aboard. The kids were awesome, I never knew the license plate game and bingo could kill so much time. We took 2 washroom breaks and a quick food break. Our total drive time was 9 hr and 15 min, which we were very happy with. Gas was cheap only 2.55/Gallon.
Stayed at The Hampton Inn & Suites in Bensalem which was a nice. Had the indoor pool, free wifi and free breakfast. A great bonus was Parx casino was only 1 km away (more about that later).
July 6th we ended up doing the tourist attractions downtown then the ball game. This must have been the hottest day of the year. It was 39 degrees. As Todd Brunson would say " I thought I was going to have my face burned off".
Started at Independence Hall, Liberty Bell and then Franklin Park. The kids didn't complain about Independence Hall and Liberty Bell because Franklin Park was really cool. It was like "Dundas Square" in Toronto in terms of location of the city, however Franklin Square was full of trees, had a huge playground, carousel, water fountain and snack bar.
We worked our way to Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies. This is located in South Philadelphia.
One thing I liked was how they have all the stadiums located across the street from one another. Financial Field for the Eagles and Wells Fargo Center for the 76ers and Flyers. Plenty of parking with room to spare.
This was a nice spacious outdoor stadium. Very clean. It makes you wish that much more that the Jays played outdoors. Sure it was hot but it felt like baseball and the dog days of summer. Beer was very expensive at $13.00 USD for a large. This made rogers center feel affordable. The kids got a picture with the Philly Phanatic which made their day enjoyable.
To be continued...
