Trip Report Moose Casino and Chip Emporium

The Prophet 22

I signed up for a course at the seminary in Cambridge back in March and was very happy to see Moose had moved his Thursday game to Friday and even happier to see he was offering a Pot Limit Omaha cash game seeing as I pretty much only have been playing PLO lately. I have a love hate relationship with this game. I love the challenges it presents and hate the luck factor it gives. I find myself on the wrong end in both cases.

I was sick most of the week and wasn’t sure I was even going to make it out, but after hitting the sauna and hot tub at the gym, then went to the place where I was staying and had a nap to get ready for the match.

There were only two people I hadn’t played with so I felt pretty comfortable sitting at the table from the beginning. There was lots of sports on Friday night and the wifi password was listed so I could connect and get the scores to all the playoff games as well as see how my boy Ricky Fowler was doing at the Players Championship..
Players started to arrive, and the Jays game was put on the flat screen. I was pretty happy about that because my boy Sanchez, the future Ace of the Jays rotation (if they don’t mess with him and put him back in the bullpen).

The buy in for this game is 100.00. The fifty cent blinds mean nothing as there is lots of betting pre-flop. The first hand of the night 3 of us to see the flop A-A-J. First guy bets 4.50, I pot it to 16.00. The third player pauses and then re pots it. First player folds. So I am in a bit of a dilemma. I have AKQ10. I am suited and can make a flush, I have outs for a straight and if he happens to have AJ or JJ I have outs for a higher full house.

I have a history with this player that goes back many years. In fact the last time we played Omaha was at Moose’s in a tournament last year. He complained I had been raising his big blind on afternoon and we ended up getting it all in pre when he called with 9653 and made two pair to take me out. Fast forward to Friday night. This player is quite capable of making a squeeze play just because he knows I am the last to act, he also knows I don’t have a huge bankroll so this might put a damper in my decision, or he could have the goods.
I take my time and decide the worst case scenario is I watch the Jay game. I decide I have to see if I am being played or not, I mean if he had the goods i.e. AJ or even JJ why re pot it there. I go all in he calls with JJ and a boat and I am behind with a few outs. He graciously ask me if I want to run it once or three times. I choose three and he scoops the whole thing.

I re buy and settle in to the Jays game trying to recoup my losses. . After a couple of hours, I have half my losses back and a new player comes in time for me to give him my seat. I offer to deal for a couple of hours and about 2:15 am I cash out and after the generous tips, I end up being down only 30.00 for the night.
It was great to see everyone and play live Omaha. Always worth the trip to Cambridge at Moose’s Casino and Chip Emporium. But as the host reminded me, make sure you come with more than 2 bullets. Chances are you will need them.

Brent, I believe I have to repot there, I pretty sure both players with the original action both have an ace, although I felt in all likely hood I had the best hand at that point but was very vulnerable against 2 players. So with the pot, re-pot ahead of me I have a chance to make the players to play for stacks with 9 outs if they don't have AJ already (As I stated, I already assumed you both have an A). If I don't repot I would have lost the pot as the other player fills up. I'm not sure if this is the right logic but it is my feeling on the play.

We have played against each other many times, and I have always enjoyed it, especially talking sports, etc. I certainly did chirp about all the raising you were doing that day and certainly did call with weaker holding pre-flop in that hand. My memory of that hand is a little different, I did call raise pre-flop, I did flop a pair and a wrap draw. In a PLO tournament where you have 2 lammers behind I'm plenty happy getting it in when I reraise you significantly and you had fold equity with 1 pair(AA). Once again I'm not sure if this is the right play, but it is what I felt. :)

I just enjoy playing, that why I go to Moose's regularly playing games that typically they explain to me prior to playing. It's all fun and look forward talking Cowboys football, you telling me lies about Smenko :) and seeing you get so excited about Blue Jays baseball. Maybe I'll see you Sunday!
