Home Cash Game Ruling - 3 Cards

Playing cash, player A goes all in on the turn, player B calls the all in. Because its a home game, everyone usually opens their hands immediately before the remaining cards are dealt.

The pot is made square and the hands are opened.

Player A who shoved opens his hand to find out he was dealt 3 cards. Clearly a mistake, he seen 2 cards, one was perfectly stuck behind another and wasn't made visible until they were opened.

Ruling?

This is a fun home game with friends, stakes aren't very high, and not that it matters, but player A was short.

What about an underground game, in a casino, trny?

His hand is dead in any case. In a home game you probably give him back the money he put in on the turn.

What about in a casino? If he puts in $400 is his hand declared dead and any monies put into the pot forfeited?

Edit: and automatically awarded to the remaining player?

exactly, once you act on a hand you assume the liability of it being irregular

Allright yes this is what I assumed.

I'm not the host in this game, but im a bit of a rules nit and I suggested that his hand should be declared dead and money put in forfeited.

It was rather easy in this case anyway because he was drawing completely dead with any combination of the 3 cards so he didn't make any deal of the situation, but just wanted to verify if what i thought, was correct. Thanks.

It's possible we may have considered something different but he went all in with what he thought he had (A9) and he also had a (2) stuck behind the 9. There was no way he could make the best hand, and had just mentioned earlier he was ready to leave so there wasn't a big deal made.

Would that not be exactly the case in any Venue where the rules are strictly enforced? Ie, not a home game

If in a home game, I make a decision in the fairness of the game. If the player is playing based on the A9 and turns cards face up and all of a sudden there's a 2, I either let the hand play the A9 as a 2 really doesn't change information and the deck could have been the issue, sticky cards or dealer dealt too many cards without noticing so I wouldn't penalize the player. Option B would be to refund monies to all players declare all hands deaf and a misdeal and move on as it is the fairness of the game. If it was a 3 card exposed and oops omg ahh I'm caught and something suspicious, we take all players money and gang beat them and leave em in an alley somewhere =)

Oh and then we do the same to the dealer of said hand as they were probably working together! Cheaters don't get mercy! =)
