I have tons of experience playing 1/2NL live but otherwise not much else. I've always wanted some "poker friends" but most people that I encounter in poker seem to be degenerates or have no bank roll and are always broke.
I believe that 98% of poker players are losing players and only 2% are truly making money. My goal is to one day be in that top 2%. I'm kind of a hypocrite in that I've played under-rolled most of my life and as a result would always be on the verge of being bust. I also have some pretty bad leaks in my game and also have an issue with playing too long and not optimally and not setting a proper stop-loss. This has resulted in me being a losing player up until now(even though I "feel" like I'm a strong player). I know the reality of being a "1/2 pro" and know that it's pretty much playing for Mcdonald's wages. I now realize how important a proper bankroll is and how important the mental side of the game is. I'm really trying to develop the mental side in my mission of being a winning poker player.
My poker goal for now is to be able to play 2/5 full time. I want poker to be my main source of income one day and until then I'm not really playing poker regularly. For now I will be living vicariously through you guys. Some people have suggested to me to play poker online for low stakes, but I'm weird in that I hate playing online poker. I figure that the process of saving up a roll will really test my patience and dedication and will provide a valuable experience in me eventually playing "professionally".
Anyways that's my general story, hope you guys welcome me!

Welcome, by all means stick around and enjoy. Be aware that the real poker boom is over and making any significant money beyond "McDonalds wages" is extremely unlikely for someone fairly new. Best idea is to be employed making a decent income and play for fun (and pocket money) on the side.

Welcome to the site.
there are great poker rooms in Vancouver to choose from. The issue playing short stack at 1/2 is that you don't have enough post flop play. I suggest to buy in max and you will add more dynamics to your game. In addition at these stakes you don't need to be tricky to get paid off. Just play in position the proper hands and your win rate should increase.
