TLDR Coles Notes: I beat rookieC!
If I'm going to talk the talk, it's time to walk the walk. Depending if you see a 3/4 glass as 3/4 full or 1/4 empty, below is the "horrible" casino scene TODAY in the GTA.
1) Casino Rama - all twelve poker tables are full as of 1 pm! For only a $300 buy-in with 5% rake, the prize pool is over $22,000! There was even a 5/10 game going on in a previous weekday afternoon. There is a group who regularly drive all the way from North Bay for the juicy games, along with Fallsview regs such as "The Next Xuan Liu" aka
Toronto Pimp's future wife. ;)
2) Gambooling option #2: I stop by Georgian Downs ON THE WAY. While there is no poker game going yet when I arrived there in the afternoon, there are a LOT of seniors happily gambling away. I think there was a $140+$10 tournament with only 6.7% rake while I was away in Las Vegas, where the rake are too high and unbeatable with the 30% tax.
3) Instead of having no gambling option on the drive home, there is yet another poker room to stop by - Woodbine. There are already 6 tables running as of Monday 6 PM, including 2/5 and 5/5. The longest sign-up list on the board is for another 2/5 game. I haven't played as much there due to the stoopid deadline for SNGs, so I was pleasantly surprised that I had not previously withdrawn all my winnings and I played with my balance. I was winning but looked at my watch and knew it was time for the fourth poker option.
4) Last but not least, I made it by 7 pm to
Bill's 16 rake-free poker tables. I managed to win the qualifier, including beating the famous rookieC, so I am now eligible for eight freerolls. I rented a couple of Blu-Rays, but when I asked for
Game of Thrones - Season 3, guess who has been hoarding it for over a week now and should pay a stiff overdue fine? :p
I think there will be a Forumers' Night Out on Friday, July 25, which will hopefully include pkrfce9, Milo, Bliffmall, irunit4times, Don, compuease, Wetts1012 and pokerJAH. Maybe pkrfce9 and I will drive on Saturday morning to
Antonio Esfandiari's Survivor Series at Playground, where the $200+$25 Survivor Event #3 starts at 1 pm.
So there you go, a day in the poker life of a player in the GTA. I only lost once, but was able to stop by four poker rooms in the span of six hours.
