A Complete and utter N00b to Poker

Hello Everyone!

I just recently got in to playing Poker in a Casual environment with some friends and by Casual I mean 'Beer & Pretzels' excessive trash talking and the like. I've played a variety of Styles of Poker here and there online as I am sure many others here no doubt have.

My Wife recently encouraged me to get a bit more involved with it as I seem to be making something of a Hobby of it and in what little Online research I've had an opportunity to do myself I was thrilled to find a Community with a more Canadian take on the game. Not that I have anything against other Countries, I just like to take part in 'local' communities whenever I can to encourage their growth.

I'll be wandering about the Forums in the future no doubt making a goof of myself with Questions and Comments so I'm sure I'll see some of you around!

I'm from Cold Lake, about 3.5 hours NE of Edmonton. I'm on enough Forums for other things that I am somewhat used to bizarre personalities there and there so no worries! Now I just need to educate myself past n00b status so I can not make a fool of myself when I get to play here or Online. Though from what I hear playing Online is a bit of a crap shoot when it comes to finding people who are playing properly.

Welcome to the site. There are quite a few recreational online players here to help you out. Don't be afraid to ask questions, we were all new to the game once.

Well.. we've already negotiated for when and if I want to get in to more than 'Funny Money' Games.. depending on how my Playing comes a long she assures me I will still be married as long as I don't lose my mind. Whatever THAT means.

I did not lose my mind when I got married. I was insane.. but I still had my mind :) However to keep the Topical Train in motion a question: Are the Websites Recommended here on the Forum at the Top of the page recommendations based on Users here? Or is that advertising? Secondary: Which of them is most Newbie Friendly?

They are ads.

Stick to pokerstars, it is the largest and most stable - ie unlikely to close and freeze your money.
