Las Vegas Hotel Advice

Heading to Las Vegas in January and need some advice on where to stay.
1.Quad (Cheapest and central location) I know it had a bad rep as the IP was wondering if anything has changed.
2. Flamingo (Also central location) Older hotel
3.Ballys

A little info to plans will probably playing mostly at the Venetian, Bellagio and Caesars during my stay and definitely a poker trip except for one day. Mostly playing cash but will try a tournament or two during my stay. Just looking for a place to sleep that is clean not interested in fancy or what it has to offer other than a place to get some sleep between sessions. Any other info/advice would be welcomed.

My advice, do not be so cheap on a hotel. If you are playing cash games at these casinos, are you worried about spending a little extra for a decent hotel? I would suggest TI, which I can usually get during the week for around $70/night. Right across from Venetian and Wynn, plus its not too far from Caesars.

Plus TI has a special on now with 2 free all day buffets per room per day. That will save you some coin.

If your doing a typical 3 night jaunt then spend a little more and stay at a nicer place. As Jah said TI is the nicest reasonably priced hotel. I literally wouldn't stay at the quad if it was free. Same for Ballys.
When are you going?
I'm going to be staying at Aria Jan 11-14. I got a great deal- my friend has a room for a convention so it's free for me!

I put a lot of value into having a comfy bed to fall into at the end of a night in vegas... and with various promotions on around the strip at any given time, its a really only a few bucks a day to up the comfort level.

We just did the Wynn for 6 days 5 nights in late November for $650 taxes in per person, including flight. When you look at that versus say $550 for a 3-4 star, why bother with anything less?

I use hotwire - the key is to look at the flight and hotel packages.

just checked some random dates for a 4 day trip in Jan... compare quad - which was OP's # 1 pick - to the 5 star Aria Resort with a SWEET new poker room and a bed that will un-tilt anyone.... for what like... 12 bucks a day more.

Or if you are so inclined, fly out of Detroit and save another $150. Caesars Windsor to warm up then early morning direct flight out of DTW.

Lots of feedback so far much appreciated. Will check on some of the options and get back once I make a decision probably within the next week. Planning on going from January 25/26 & returning February 1st.

The Quad has no plans to reno their rooms which are shitty motel 6 quality at best. Ballys just reno'd their south tower which was their oldest and where they had all their cheapest rooms. Most of Flamingo has been reno'd and is my favourite place to stay. Fairly convenient to Venetian etc.

Most flights from Detroit are direct whereas Buffalo most flights have at least one stop. Personally its a long enough flight without adding stops on top and I always go direct from Detroit. You can almost always do better booking hotel and flight on your own than using a package.

As our own little Vegas veteran now, jacnok, will attest, it is worth it to make a trip to Caesars Windsor in advance and pick up a players card if you don't have one and use it when booking your Vegas hotel. You will cut prices by at least half, if not pick up some midweek comped nights.

Before westside8 dumped me for his bride, ;) he and I roomed together at the IP and flew out of Buffalo, for the lowest-priced package during the Vegas forum trip several years ago. We did the $20 tip trick to upgrade our hotel room, and it was a perfectly fine resort, better than most hotels I've stayed outside Las Vegas. After waking up, I would walk to the Venetian, grind and make money for the whole day, walk back to IP to sleep, then rinse and repeat.

I've stayed at a Monte Carlo suite, Rio suite, Treasure Island, Stratosphere, etc., but if it's just to sleep and play poker at Venetian, Bellagio and Caesars, then I would have no problemo staying at IP/Quad again.

In May we flew out of buffalo direct. Was 400$ return.
This time around we are flying out of YYZ because our rooms are free and it's costing us 550$ all in return.

I can't believe some forum members actually agreed with me, spend more on a nice hotel....where have all the cheapskates gone ?? I also like a hotel with easy access to the strip. One of the reasons I won't stay at MGM anymore. I also dont like Aria as it is very isolated from the strip, although nice poker room.

Aria is close enough for the rooms we will play at. Obv Aria but also Bellagio and PH.
I never understood people's reluctance to stay anywhere south of Bellagio. For me a 15-25 min walk pursuing an otherwise lazyass game is worth it.

I fly out of Buffalo all the time direct. They usually have 2 nonstop flights a day, and they're cheaper than the flights with stops.

I've stayed at TI and the Quad in the past. If you're degening it up and just want a cheap sleep and shower, Quad is just fine. TI is much nicer, quieter, and has super comfy beds.

Leaning towards the Flamingo. As I said the hotel is just to sleep, shower and refresh between poker sessions. This is a total degen poker trip not looking for ambiance just a clean bed to sleep in and a clean bathroom to freshen up in. Not looking to impress with the room. Have stayed at Mandalay Bay and Harrahs as well as the Rio in the past they served their purpose for the type of vacations they were for this one is just for what I stated above.

how much you paying for this place? I have to start looking for hotel deals for my annual WSOP trip in June. Likely go with TI if I can get it for around $70ish a night or may splurge for the Palazzo.
