Just fooling around with this now. Trying to follow your instructions Moose, but when I tried to install the config wizard from zip file I can't tell if it actually did it or not. I selected it and clicked on ok, but it didn't say 'done' or 'installed' or anything.

Assuming it did, I went to videos, but can't find any Genesis icon. How'd you eventually find it?

Edit: Just watched the youtube video. I hadn't installed the Lambda add on yet, which appeared to include the Genesis addon. I think I'm good to go at this point.

I might be able to get this to work on my TV after all. I have a Panasonic TH42PZ85, which has Vieracast and an ethernet port on the back. Not sure if that's gonna help or not but I might as well take a shot at it. If that doesn't work, my AVR is a Denon AVR1713 which is net ready and I'd rather run it through there if possible. We'll see how this turns out.

You need something kodi runs on. If that is your PC, then VGA or HDMI to your TV/receiver.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking. I think I tried this in the past and that's why I eventually got the wdtv box to just run it through our network to wdtv to the AVR which then spits it out on the TV. My PC only has one HDMI port that I use for my monitor. I was hoping somehow since my AVR is net ready I could run it through there.

Man I remember my university days with a 13" black and white TV with one channel. It really was easier back then. 10PM, turn on rerun of star trek next generation, 11pm turn off.

OK this is tricky but hopefully you can follow my directions because it's not the most intuitive:

1. Play something using Genesis
2. Hit the X in the top right corner. Video will continue to play in the background but the home page should come up.
3. In the bottom left corner, there should be the triangular play symbol, for the video that is still playing, tap and hold on the tablet or right click.
4. A new Now Playing window should open that shows the filename of the video you are playing.
5. Again, tap and hold on a tablet or right click with mouse on the filename and a context sensitive menu should open. If kodi sees a broadcastable device on your network, you should see an option that says 'Play with...'. Click on that and select the device you want to broadcast to. If it sees your tv or avr or wdtvlive, it should be listed there. If the Play With option is not there, then you don't have any DNLA capable devices on your network.

Thanks Moose. I just managed to get the first episode of battlestar galactica playing on my pc. Very impressive so far. I have no idea how streaming works, so when I clicked on S1E1 or whatever it gave me a bunch of different 'feeds'. I guess each one is different, one didn't work but another one did. One was in stereo, another in Dolby 5.1. Interestingly, one took for ever to buffer and only got to 1%, then started playing. After another minute, it got hung up and had to buffer again. I tried another feed and didn't have any buffering issue.

I'll give your above dlna suggestion a try now and see how it goes. I think this just got fun.

One thing I wish Koki could do is minimize to a smaller screen rather than full screen so I could come back here and check your instructions. Given that I haven't read any helpfile or watched more than 1 min of a youtube video I suppose I do deserve some form of punishment.

You can, just press the backslash key to toggle fullscreen vs window.

No broadcastable devices. Anyone know of any cheap ones I could get? I have a couple of old laptops I was going to hookup but one good PC with a couple of these devices would be much better.

When I say broadcastable, I mean broadcastable TO. Having a device that can broadcast won't help if your TV won't play the broadcast.

I have an LG tv upstairs and it plays my broadcast no problems. Downstairs, I have a newer smart Philips tv, which shows up in my 'Play With...' list but won't play the signal, probably because Philips has a proprietary program you are supposed to install to broadcast. grrr.

Anyways my Dell media laptop streams but won't broadcast, which surprised me, and my Nexus 7 tablet streams and broadcasts quite well.

Tried Moose's suggestion. All that came up was 'move item' and no 'play with'. I clicked on the move item tab, but nothing happened. Clicked on it again and it said 'cancel move'. Don't think that's what I wanted.

Don't think I have any DLNA devices which is weird as I googled wdtv yesterday and I thought it said it was dlna compatible. Anyhoo, I've got the first step working.

Ok, that's weird. I just googled Denon AVR1713 and one site indicates that it is dlna compatible. However, it talks about web radio and JPEG pics but doesn't indicate video streaming. Is dlna a leveled certification?

I was hoping for a simple device like Chromecast. Anything like that to pick up the broadcast? I know Chromecast isn't for this but what I mean is a small cheap device that would work.

HDMI splitter (Careful, thats "splitter" not "switcher"!) will run $20 or so.

Catch is that both screens must run at the same resolution. (so no issue if your pc monitor runs 1920x1080)

Do you get audio from your PC HDMI? I remember trying this years ago and the answer was no.

Thanks for the reminder. I tried that too years ago, that's why it didn't seem like an option but I couldn't remember why.

^ HDMI Audio used to be a real pain in the ass, but as of version 11 or 12 (ish) it became so easy that it pissed me off how much time I wasted on it.

System->Audio-> "Enable Passthrough"
and
System->Audio-> "Receiver is DTS capable"

Should do the trick.

edit: crap. Having some trouble finding the lambda add on that allowed me to access the genesis add on. This is like herding cats. Eventually found it and dl'ing genesis now on nexus 7. Gotta spend some time out in the freezing cold throwing the ball for the dogs.

I will say guys, we're actually making some reasonable progress on this project today. Nicely done.

Although all this sounds appealing, I would be a mess trying to figuring it all out.
