I know nothing other than what those two links told me. I used the exact settings in example 4 with the larger cache.

Even with my slow internet (<5 mbps) 90% of everything streams fine, using wifi only. If it doesn't stream fine, usually backing up and streaming a different source, solves the problem.

One thing I find pretty funny is when you go to the KODI forum looking for info about the script failed thing, the mods on there say that they cannot comment on any addons or information that would allow users to access copy written materials.

Isn't that pretty much what most of the people using kodi are doing for the most part? They're pretty serious about it too from the looks of things.

You mention 1channel or icefilms and they suggest that could warrant an instaban. Obviously they have to distance themselves from the whole thing, but let's get real.

I watched Fury last night! 720p, AAC audio. Not one buffering issue and I hadn't even changed the cache settings yet.

It was very watchable. Not pure HD, but it was good quality. No buffering, live streamed so commercials and all. Was happy with the results.

And what exactly is this 'cache' thing all about. What does it do, why does it need to be cleared etc?

Somebody else can probably describe it better than me. A cache is like a temporary holding area for data so that it can be released at a more fluid rate, rather than simply relying on the streaming to be continuous. Hope that makes sense.

Basically, it's a buffer. You clear the cache to allow new data to be placed there.

And I definitely will be getting one, I had a spare wireless keyboard and mouse I've been using until I get the hang of it. Once that's done I will be getting a better remote for it.

I got the Logitech K400 off Amazon.ca then I realized it was actually cheaper at Staples. It's not exactly tiny, but it'll be living in my office unless I'm using it so that's not a concern. Trackpad works very well other than the odd phantom click.

I swear it made using the Gbox a dream. I had PFC up on the big screen for a while! I bet I could even ban people from the comfort of my couch!

You have it pretty well right... cept usually there is no need to clear the cache as it is treated pretty well as "stale data", ie new data in replaces the oldest data there. In this case it is to assist in buffering or prevent pauses in the playing of video, so very similar to the computing use. Although for a computer the software is predicting what is coming next to avoid the processor having to wait for data. ie lookahead cache.

I like the size of this Along with the keyboard functions, hopefully the mouse functions well.... it's probably between this one and a rii mini i8 I believe it is.

I seen the rii one at a flea market and tested it out briefly and seemed to work pretty good. Wasn't too big.

I might make a decision on one today.

Man, I definitely have to increase the cache size on this thing. Just tried to watch Walking Dead and it hung up continuously. Any thoughts on what the max size can be without having any detrimental effects? Not sure what they could be.

I'm guessing the problem isn't your cache. Every now and then things just hang up and I think its on the streaming site's end. I usually just pause it for a full minute or two and it's fine.

Hmm, maybe that's it. Last night I set the cache size to 200Mb like Moose suggested. Went to watch a little half hr show in HD (720p, Dolby 5.1). Thing ran for about a minute then said 'cache is full' and paused while it filled the cache again. Minute later did the same thing. Maybe I'll just make the cache huge and see what happens.

edit: Streaming the show in standard def, AAC2.0 did seem to work last night, but I'd rather not do that.

Yeah, paused then the little "buffering 1%" window came up at the top of the screen. The buffering % did increase to a higher point since I increased the cache size, but was still pausing within short order. After I change the cache size, etc. from that youtube video I did make sure to reboot to ensure the changes were actually made.

Other than a few little hiccups like this, I'm really liking this thing and my wife has totally figured out the interface to the point I'm rarely having to come to the rescue.
