Road Trip to Seoul

So I decided to use a vacation day and take the subway to Seoul and head to the Lucky 7 casino. It takes about an hour and half and two transfer. It is a daunting task for me because even though I have been here a year, I rarely travel the subway by myself for fear of getting lost.

I am looking to play a little Hold'em but the games don't start till late afternoon so I head over to the blackjack tables. I sit in on a 10,000 to 500,000 won table. Things are going ok, some guy from Australia is playing table make and betting the side game 50,000 a hand on the pair game they have. The anchor at the table is playing 20,000 a hand in two spots. He is doing crazy things like splitting face cards on anything dealer shows 2-6. And then an automatic surrender if the dealer has a 9,10 or facecard. Driving the table nuts, but he is having a good time. The Australian has had enough and decides to leave. A decide to play 2 spots and my luck changes and I start to go above my initial buy in of 100,000 won. We are about 3 hands into the shoe and this tall white guy comes up and starts watching. I turn and ask if he wants to sit down and he says sure. I move to the left and he takes the second spot at the table and buys in for 200,000 won. We play maybe one hand and this Korean guy comes up to the table and gives the guy a piece of paper and a pen. Its my turn at the table and turn away thinking what could Korean want from this guy. Anyway, I double on my eleven and get the magic ace for a twelve. It gets to the dealer who was showing a 4. He turns over a 6 then a 3, then a queen. So the usual conversations start he asks me where I am from, name and what I am doing in Korea. He says he hasn't been to Toronto but been to Canada several time. Tells me he is from Minnesota and says he doesn't know of to many white principals in Korea. I say are you a teacher? He says “hell know, I am a professional baseball player.” I ask him who he plays for and his name. He says his name is Ben Jukich and he plays for the LG Twins. It dawns on me the Korean guy was asking him for his autograph. He drops 200,000 in one shoe and leaves.

The table continues its crazy play. I play for another hour or so and get a call from the school secretary saying my phone company wants to change a chip in my phone and it has to be done today. I leave down 75,000 won.

Will definitely had back again in September to play a little hold'em.

PS 1000 won = about a dollar 1.00

It is funny cause I asked him if he was trying to supplement his income. He laughed and said no, in fact his wife had just gone to the airport earlier in the day to go back to the states and sign papers on a house he just bought. He seemed to think he will be in the show next year.
