I have some friends in Calgary...fortunately, they all live outside of the current flood zones. One of my favorite towns, Canmore, got severely hit.

First hand as I have...it's a bit "unreal". My wife phoned last night from work to tell me to expect a call from our oldest as they were evacuating her neighborhood and I might need to get her from work to go pick up somethings and her cat, as her boyfriend was trying to find a route home. In the end they safely got together, moved things to the second floor and are now staying with us. Their neighborhood is quite flooded and against my advice, they are going to make sure there aren't any looters as we speak.

I crashed early last night anticipating a long commute in. If there is one major complaint I have about Alberta is we are to fucking pig headed to stop working for a day. Or some owners anyway. I knew my boss would expect an effort and while some staff didn't show and others bailed immediately, we tried to work. Obviously everyone was wondering if we would make it home as wee listened to updates and googled pics. Finally around 10:30 (start at 7) there were so many closures they called it. Not sure if we get paid out for day but we got to go home. Wife picked up supplies and I went back out for more, yes grocery stores cleaned out and busier than norm.

We live on high ground in the burbs, so not affected that way. I can't see how they plan to have a Stampede in a few weeks, on a poker note both Stampede (Cowboys) and Elbow are under water. Right to level of steps, 6 feet up anyway. See, wasn't kidding when I bitched about getting out of constant rain for Vegas trip.

Driving home I didn't notice how close the river was to Deerfoot, kinda startled me when I realized it and seeing train a foot above water was nuts. Lots of images under hashtag #yycflood for those who want to see what city is up against.

I'll post an update on the state of daughters place, luckily being a young couple, there isn't years of things accumulated to lose and they always have our place. She's expecting in October, so glad they don't seem stressed. They are in Bowness right by river, so don't expect they will be unscathed or not unconvinced awhile.

Next week should be interesting. I expect a bit of stress cases at work as multiple suppliers are incapacitated and being oil and gas, sure there will be a clusterfuck snowball effect. Gotta roll with it though. Feeling holidays are even better timed now, let things sort out a bit. Hit the I-15 next Saturday. Hopefully no problems in lethbridge or Montana

Highway 1 is gone. I don't know how shit is going to get through mountains. Expecting some impending gouging, legit and otherwise. Regardless 1000%ore fortunate that some so gotta just roll with it.

I heard Lethbridge was evacuated as well?

Also, a friend of mine who lives near Bragg Creek was evacuated and she told me that floods aren't covered by insurance..not sure if she meant her insurance or that you can't get flood coverage in AB (she's not the brightest)?

Downtown (Elbow) is really in 6 ft of water?

Daughter is back and looks like even if water rises will just miss house. Phew.

As for the flood damages, your friend is right but it's not just Alberta. Just read an article by some big insurance guy being interviewed and there is no overland flood insurance in Canada. Sewer back up yes. Car flooded and have comprehensive yes. As for houses, provinces have to provide relief.

There are pics of Elbow casino with water right to front door. You know how high those steps are, 10-14 risers min. Saddledome flooded to row 14, by many credible news accounts.
