Electronic Poker Tables @ Georgian Downs Slots

Hey all,

I'm a supervisor at Western Fair District and helped to train the staff who are working these tables at all the racetrack locations.

I've been running the Fair's room for about a year.

The tables at all slots (except ours) run 1/2 NL. The tables are capable of running fixed limit and pot limit games as well. I would suggest you put in comment cards with suggestions, as the games only take a three day approval process to be set up by the staff.

I digress.

The tables themselves operate using 10 touch screens. One per player. The hole cards are dealt face down and only appear when a player is cupping their hands over the small area on the screen.

The table deals and shuffles quickly. We see about 45-50 hands per hour on average.

Rake at all locations is set at 10 percent to a maximum of five dollars.

These tables are also capable of running tournament play. Western Fair will be piloting this in September, and their template will be used at all other locations. As well, 1/2 Pot Limit Omaha runs at Western Fair on these tables on Wednesday nights, and you should be seeing these profiles appearing at the other games soon, as well.

The tables can run 7 card stud, Omaha high low, Omaha, and Hold'em. All money is kept on an account linked to your players card. You require a piece of photo ID to sign up (your healthcard DOES NOT work. You need a passport, drivers licence, or healthcard coupled with a birth certificate).

As far as I'm aware --as I kind of helped set these rooms up-- they all allow phone ins 90 mins in advance.

I've played there twice now and enjoyed the game. Best 1/2 rake around. Especially since it doesn't have to round to dollars so there's $0.25 increments of rake. The terminals are easy to use and you can set preferences for auto muck, always chop, UTG straddle, etc... Once you get a card and open an account, it's easy to put on and take off money. Only played twice but the games were pretty soft. Unfortunately the tables are only open from 6pm to 3am and both nights I was there the tables were pretty short by 1am. There are some people who like to buy in short more frequently than I've seen at other cash games. Two night sample size mind you.

i have a problem with electronic gaming tables. places like western fair got into places like London by making a lot of promises about helping the economy, paying lots of taxes and creating jobs. I don't know why they can't hire dealers to run regular poker and black Jack tables, but from what i understand they aren't licensed to have table games, or something to that effect. so why are they allowed to skirt this rule and put in an automated version that takes away a job opportunity from a guy like me who would be more than happy to deal black Jack or poker for minimum wage? it kind of feels like a promise was broken all those years ago when these tables first came out.

I live 4 minutes away - have played the tables 6 or 7 times now. I did not like them at first but there are always positives and negatives to consider. In my opinion you have the best of both worlds - online and live. You have the speed and accuracy of online (electronic) with the live players there to give off all their information - which they do repeatedly. From a purely monetary perspective you can slip out there and do a 3-4 hour session which would be 6-8 hours at Rama and make (or lose LOL) the same amount in half the time. The incremental rake (.25) while annoying is max. $5 and there is no tipping the computer - so that is a wash. The game is still social - so all the social fish come out to "try it". I like the organtic nature of real live poker - chating up the fish, shuffling chips, staring at people ... LOL ... so I am not a fan of electronic poker ... but now that I have played there more and figured out the way people play the game there more, I am very happy that this hybrid is only 4 minutes away >:D

Was just on the olg's poker website and noticed that they're going to be running regular tournaments at georgian on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays in the month of January. They have started this week.

Max PLRS for all Games is 30.

Sundays @ 12pm
Buy in - $90+$10
Starting stack - 10k
Blinds - 20 min

Mondays & Wednesdays @ 8pm
Buyin - $75+$5
Starting chips - 8k
Blinds - 15 min

Did a small piece on this a couple weeks ago, News | All Ontario Poker. Most of the electronic tournaments should be in our database (up to the end of January). OLG has yet to update the February tournaments. I guess they want to see how successful they are during the first two months of introduction.

Western Fair has excellent deep stack tournaments every month with only 4% rake, including June 30. I played my first OLG Slots tournament there and cashed. You will eventually need to have your ID replaced, so you may as well do it sooner to play low-rake poker instead of slots.

I just found out that this place is only an hour drive from my place. I plan on checking out in the near future.

Any reason you're choosing to go up to Georgian Downs as oppose to Woodbine? Is it strictly due to tournaments > cash games for you?

I don't plan on playing anything until after my daughter visits, so not until mid July or early August.

With high-value promotions such as the $5,000 Tournament of Champions :cool2: and Poker Player VIP Appreciation Nights, it was a no-brainer for me to play at Georgian Downs. If enough players request Woodbine to start a tournament, I may play there more.

You can't register over the phone, but it's a good idea to phone ahead (1-866-299-7568) to express your interest in the scheduled MTT. For example, the more people phone after 6 PM this Thursday for the $220+$10 Deep Stack, the better chance it will run. While Western Fair was willing to run a Deep Stack MTT with a minimum of 3 players, Georgian Downs wants at least six players to run any tournament.

Avoid the "SNG" format with only 5K chips & 2 places paid. The $75+$5 MTT with 8K chips & only 6% rake is better than the $90+$10 MTT with 10% rake.

That's correct. Unless at least six players phone ahead on Thursday for the 15,000-chip Deep Stack with only 4% rake, the poker host may choose not to run that specific tournament. The poker room extension sometimes goes to an authomatic message instead of a live person, so you may have to ask the operator to transfer your call to a poker host.
