just an interesting point that many people don't know:
the first Church of Satan founded by Anton LaVey 1966 (who also wrote the The Satanic Bible in 1969) did not worship Satan like many believe. obviously there are groups that have formed since then that do, but actual true Satanists do not.

i took a course called cults in north american in university (pretty sure i still have the text 'comprehending cults' - very interesting). we studied satanism, the branch davidians, scientology, wiccan, evangelicalism, and possibly one or two more i can't remember atm. also, despite the name of the course, the politically correct term is new religious movements.
