LAPC 2011, $335 1 Million guarantee, $345 HU & 5k HU!

Matt Savage has added a 64 max 5k Heads Up to this years LAPC line up, I really like this realistic approach to introducing the new event. What also looks good for Heads Up players is Event #18 a $345, 256 player max Heads Up event. Still intact is the $335 multiple entry day Million Dollar prize pool Guaranteed event and there are so many under $500 events with huge guaranteed prize pools. Still sorting through the schedule but it looks awesome! January 19th to March 3rd. Anyone planning on going? would love to hear feedback.

man this sucks! as a canadian to look at these mouthwatering tourneys and not being able to play in them. i can't wait till im done school and have a proper bankroll. they should really restructure the poker system in canadian casinos

I usually unregister from the final satellites of US events, but since I wanted to take my kid to Disneyworld/land, I played the PartyPoker final satellites for the televised WPT Celebrity Invitational. Fortunately, I won the package so my family gets to go to LA on February 18-22, 2011.

Last year, PartyPoker took out $750 from the package for 4 nights' hotel and hospitality, which included a tour of Universal Studios and LA. This year, they're charging 33% more or $1K, so the spending money is less at $2K.

While I obviously won't buy in to any of the other tournaments because of the 37% withholding tax :rage: (including 7% extra California state tax), I'm tempted to grind the world's best cash games at Commerce and Bicycle Casino, or the many satellites (assuming there are no taxes and can be sold for cash just like when I won satellites in Las Vegas). However, since my family will finally be travelling with me for the first time ever on a poker trip (instead of me travelling with other forum members before), my priority will be for them to enjoy Disneyland and other California attractions.

Play the 1K super satellites, they give out lamers and you can usually sell them in the line ups going to the cage to register. Most pros (or internet kids) will just pull out a wad of 100s and pay you there. Its a common courtesy.

Are you or other forumer going to LAPC? I just realized that the 60th NBA All Star events are on February 18-20 while I am there, and I may try to go with somebody. The NBA All-Star Celebrity Game and Jam Session starts around 4 PM on Friday, February 18. The NBA All-Star Practice starts around 10 AM on Saturday, February 19. The WPT Celebrity Invitatiional tournament starts later that night with the Cocktail Party at 7 PM so hopefully all the celebrities will get drunk at the open bar by the time play begins! >:D

Does anybody know how the Los Angeles poker rooms differ from Las Vegas in terms of how much higher the rake is, buy-in limits, BBJ, etc? Is the rake $1+$1 preflop, or total of $5+1 for any 1/2 NL flop at Commerce & Bicycle casinos? Is it true that a rake is always taken, even if the blinds chop or nobody calls a preflop raise?

A $6+ rake for ANY flop is hard to beat for 1/2, especially if it's still true that you can only buy for 20 BB or $40. Is it true that there is no free alcohol, but free food for high limits?

Not sure if you've already answered your own question but at Commerce there's different buy-in amounts at each stake. From what I remember some tables you could buy in for 50-150bb while some other tables had a max of 50bb. And with the exception of timed games, they take $1+1 from the SB even if the blinds chop.

As for food, on the high stakes side (10/20 NL and higher), you get comped food without needing to check your card. On the lower stakes they take the points off your card. What I hear people do is use the points at the gift shop before ordering food cause it seems they get comped food as long as you have a card. Personally, I had to pay once so maybe it's up to the discretion of the floorman.

Busted out on Day 2 of the WPT Celebrity Invitational. Less than 50 players remain, with live streaming available of the feature table with Liv Boeree, Antonio Esfandiari (in my table for almost all of Day 1), and Eric Mizrachi.

That $6 rake is way too high for 1/2NL(40 max)!!
Sounds like you need to play 5/10 (1500 max buyin) or 10/20.

Yes, the Commerce 1/2 - 5/10 games with short buy-ins and FLAT $6 rake are virtually unbeatable, but there are thousands of players in slots-free California that are addicted to playing in that rake death trap! After I checked in for the WPT Invitational, I sat down in a cash table so I could confirm that the structure and rules were as retarded as I had heard. As soon as I was ahead, I left with a friend (who had already busted) for the Bicycle Casino.

The Bike has a $2/$3 $300 max. game with a drop of $4+$1, which is much more winnable compared to the Commerce. There were some bad regulars and I had multiplied my stack by more than six times. Unfortunately, my friend had again busted and wanted to go back early to Commerce for the Celebrity party with free gourmet food and open bar.
