After I downloaded Windows Live Messenger to MSN a forumer, my Messenger, Internet Explorer and PartyPoker all no longer work and just freeze up. I cannot access anything in IE and had to change my default browser to Firefox. I have been on the phone with PartyPoker live support all morning but when I try to re-download the PartyPoker application, it just remains at 0%.

I'm going to be frantically searching the Net as I won entries to the big Sunday tournaments on both PartyPoker and PokerStars, but I'm hoping somebody here has an idea of how to fix this. PokerStars seems to work fine as it doesn't need IE, which PartyPoker seems to need before it can even download the application.
After trying all sorts of things with PartyPoker support, I removed the Live Messenger application and I was finally able to re-install PartyPoker. If a forumer wants to instant message me, it will have to be with something else besides Microsoft's Live Messenger P.O.S!
GL, i'll be playing the party million as well

Makes no sense, only 12 Gazzillion ppl using Windows Live. Is this on a Vista (the orphaned O/S) machine? Perhaps some spyware? Surfing too many porn sites?
Download and run Malware Bytes....
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - Reviews and free Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware downloads at Download.com
I am having problem with WLM on that desktop you built for me too Jeff...funny thing is that its only on that one, but not the $300 desktop I bought on boxing day for my parents which is also on Vista.
Try this....
Stop the sharing service

do the following

start -> run -> services.msc

then go to Messenger Sharing Folders USN Journal Reader service

click on proprieties and disable it
Good luck to you too. Can I only chat with people who have the same instant messaging software? Is any forumer playing PokerStars' $750,000 Sunday Warm-up?

I was playing the warmup, but like other tournies today, getting killed by 2 outers.
msm is against TOS for some sites
maybe they have some kind of blocking built into the programming

wtf? First time ever I've heard of this...
they can't block you from d/l if you have msn running... that would be illegal.
You can use a client that works with the MSN protocol like Trillain from Cerulain studios.. You dont HAVE to use microsofts client..

Did you try to turn off the microsoft windows firewall? It likely reconfigured it when all that IE crap was installed.

yah there are some threads on 2p2 where FT has come out and said it is against TOS. Using it to justify bans in emails that have been made public. However, there maybe some more to the story for these individuals but the emails from FT support clearly state it is against ToS

Good suggestion, and another I have played with is PIDGIN.. Keep in mind that the greater the variation of chat clients trying to communicate with each other the greater the chance of compatibility issues cropping up.... The communication methods are in a constant state of flux... Kinda like the early days of email where compatibility between email clients was a constant issue and I would imagine it was the same in the early days of telephone as well.... Not that I was around then... :)

I would imagine that they are coming from the perspective that it is "one player to a hand". They don't want you communicating with someone else about a hand you are involved in... Personally I think this is just a "feel good" position as there is no way it can be enforced. There are just way too many communication vehicles that can be used. (Dozens of chat programs, telephone, smoke signals, etc)
I'm linux based now so I use pidgin, when I used windows I used Trillian.. Never really had major connection issues with non-microsoft clients anymore.
for FTP position
you can use IM software
but you cannot use IM software to share holecard information
i assuming they have a way knowing what you type.

You're saying that the poker site knows what you are typing into your chat client? They would have to have a keylogger installed on your system to do that.. lol, don't think they would ever dare....... Imagine the publicity if that was discovered....
According to the new party poker TOS, they'll take all the money from your account if you ever discuss:

Motorhead (The Ace of Spades)
Neil Diamond
Going to a club on 5th steet

And man, don't even think about playing your Heart MP3s in iTunes..

It's obviously collusion.
Damn...I love Neil Diamond too...

I have WLM running all day long on my computer, I use Firefox, and have played at all the sites aforementioned without an issue...Windows XP os.
