It was my poker trip of a lifetime and below are the highlights.
- The TV producer surprisingly asked me to be taped for an interview the morning of the CPT Finals. At the end of Day 1, I was the chip leader! I was miked up for the final table where I was co-chip leader. After we were in the money, the chip leader raised my big blind and I knew my suited ace was better than his hand so I re-raised all-in, he quickly called with a worse hand but outdrew me, and he went on to become the CPT champion with the $160,000 prize. The poker documentary will be broadcast on The Score in the spring.
- The night before, I played a CPT Finals satellite with a last-longer side bet that included Adam Schwartz and Bunner from the 2+2 PokerCast. I won the side bet and chopped heads-up with a 2+2er.
- I played the Super Satellite on January 22 for the WPS Main Event, and won a seat as chip leader.
- On my final day, I played WPS Event #7 and got my third top six finish for the week.
Variance: I heard the cash games were crazy (including a 5-figure heads-up challenge), but I made it to the final three tables of all the tournaments, so I only had one session and missed out on the degeneracy.
Beat: After the CPT Finals, I went back to my resort then the rain started (that would not stop for 48 hours), and I missed the "hookers and blow" after-party.
The Dominican Republic and especially Canada Customs questioned me about having more than $10,000 in funds. Canada Customs opened everything, including the "Birds of Paradise" flower box that I bought for my wife, and filled out paperwork for all the money I had with me.
Here is a article: "
