I was just wondering what your favourite poker movies were, i am always looking for a good movie. While i have watched Rounders probably 20 or more times, my favourite poker movie would have to be High Roller- The Stu Ungar Story. I happened to be in a used cd/dvd store in Toronto a couple of months ago and found this movie. Michael Imperioli (Christopher from The Sopranos) plays Stu Ungar. It chronicles his life, how he had a serious gambling problem, was addicted to drugs, and many other things. While he did have a gambling problem, he was an amazing card player. He won the ME at the WSOP 3 times. Had he not died at such a young age,42, we would not have to listen to Hellmuth proclaim he is the best poker player around, as Ungar had 5 bracelets by 1997. But drugs got the best of him. He is reported to have lost $32 million over the course of his lifetime, of course he also won that much as well. Just wondering what other poker movies you enjoy watching.
Rounders is my fav right now.
Just downloaded The Stu Ungar story. Glad to hear it's good.
I don't think there's a lot of poker movies out there, but if you expand the question to gambling movies you can't go wrong with:

The Sting (1973)
The Hustler (1961)

And if you like great film noir, check out

Double Indemnity (1944)

Or y'know, anything off my list

I heard how bad it was, and I had an open dish at that time...

..and I'm a closet Justin Guarini fan
A couple of other gambling movies are The Last Casino, and The Cooler. The last Casino is a Canadian made movie I believe which sort of revolves around a group of smart university students who get involved in counting cards in Blackjack. It was an ok movie, nothing special. The Cooler stars William H Macy as a down on his luck guy who works at this casino in Vegas run by Alec Baldwin. His job is being a cooler, which means he goes around to the casino to cool peoples luck. If you get a chance to rent The Cooler i would recommend that one for sure.
Owning Mahoney

Starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman

Really good

Rounders is the best I've seen.

For some reason movie writers seem to think that all games aren't table stakes.... Witness the horrid movies like Slade... making me think that most poker movie writers don't play poker..
No mention of the latest bond movie?

Phil Helmuth, Johnny Chan, and Doyle Brunson get mentioned in this movie as poker greats. I think this movie went to phil helmuth's head.
rounders is amazing. It pumps me up to play poker :)
Are there any other mostly texas holdem based movies out there?
(there is some 7 card stud in rounders, but its not that prominent)
