Playing with a card face up?

If a card was exposed preflop by accident, would you allow and/or be okay with the player keeping the card and playing the hand with it face up?

Happened in one of my recent games and curious what others think.

Is it because the player wanted to keep it? Like it was an ace and he has no problem with someone else knowing they had an ace? in my opinion any exposed card preflop stays exposed and then after everyone is dealt the exposed card gets replaced by the burn card on the top of the deck and stays exposed and becomes a burn card for the flop.. that way everyone knows everything is still fair. but to be honest it would be completely at a players disadvantage to keep an exposed card and if they want to do it then in my opinion let them!

Normally, we do just keep dealing and give last card to that player and used the exposed card as the first burn. However, in the case the player wants to keep it, do you allow it and/or be okay with it?

I let it go because I felt the same way as you, but I'm curious if others would allow it.

The more I think about this this does give the user an advantage. Everyone knows they have an ace and they can push the table around now. So basically everyone folds, and if anybody bets him he obviously knows that they know he has an ace so they must have a better hand. Yeah I think it has to be burnt can't keep it!

No, seriously, I get it. I won't let it happen again. I'm assuming we've all bent or broken a rule at poker either for fun and entertainment reasons or to speed up the game or whatever, but I agree that this goes too far. I regretted it afterwards.

Back to the topic. Depends on the setting. In a fun home game where we are splashing around, I'm allowing this 100% under the "Good for the game" discretionary policy. Dont second guess yourself trigs. Any potential advantage is obviously negated by the fact that we can see the card.

Theres a good discussion here I think around balancing game integrity with keeping it fun. No one likes a stickler, but also you have to minimize angles. This particular situation I think is the sign of a good fun (read: loose) game and low risk as far as any advantage. Why risk throwing off the vibe if they want to play face up?
