Some Good Cyber Monday Flights to Vegas

There are some great deals to Vegas next week on Westjet right now. If you leave Saturday or Sunday night, and return Weds., you can get return for $400 including all taxes. Very good prices given the time of year and no red eye flights and no stop overs.

If you come across any good deals on Vegas hotels or flights, post them here.

  • Unfortunately, I don't live in Detroit.

Sorry, my bad....fortunately I don't live in Detroit.
  • I'm flying Detroit to New Orleans with a group of friends on Spirit Friday for $129 return. 5 of my last 6 flights have been out of Detroit and I may never fly out of Toronto again.

You don't have to live there to take advantage of their superior service and underutilized facilities.
  • For those that fly out of Detroit.

How long is the drive to airport?

Do you stay and leave your car somewhere the night before? Where?

    Park at the airport?

    How much is parking?

How long is the drive to airport? Milton to DTW is approx. 3:15 depending on border crossing time, approx. 20 min from border crossing to DTW.

If you have an early morning flight use one of the many "Park Sleep and Fly" Hotels nearby. Essentially you pay for one night, lots of choice at under $100, get free parking for 7-10 days.

Park at the airport? Surface parking is $9. per day I believe.

    How much is parking?
Moose will have more current info as it has been 2 years since I have been. Fun thing is to get there dinner time day before and play at Casino Windsor or MGM or Greektown in Detroit as a warmup, then fly out next morning.
  • I checked my flight, its still $340US so not really a big savings. If you have more flexibility on dates/times, it might be an option. Detroit is a good four hours plus from the GTA.

Looking at the numbers, I guess in most cases you have to add in one night hotel in Detroit/Windsor, gas back and forth, luggage charges (Spirit appears to charge for even carry on), and parking (might be included in your hotel cost). I just take a $5 GO bus from Richmond Hill to Terminal 1. If you have to pay for parking at Pearson, that can be huge.

For those with busy schedules, Pearson is our only option. I be interested to know where else they fly direct out of Detroit.
  • under $400 non stop round trip from toronto is a great price. Detroit or Buffalo are great options too but only if they work into your plans - I would not hesitate to book from YYZ at that price!!

    High Rolla special :)

To complete the High Rolla special, simply play @ woodbine (conveniently located 6 minutes from the airport) during the 4 hours you would have spent driving to Detroit.

If all goes according to plan, it should work out cheaper!
  • 4 hour drive x 2 expenses plus the equivalent of a day gone from your life...doesn't sound like a great deal

    Comps times are correct.

Usually I get a comped room at Caesars Windsor before and/or after the flight and use
Airlinesparking.com which is about a 2 min drive from their lot to your gate. There is a coupon at their site for reduced parking. When you arrive they get a shuttle to escort you to a spot so you never have to wait. CW is about 3 blocks from the tunnel and usually crossing the border is under 5 min. Key at the tunnel is to always go to the extreme right lane because the last lane actually leads to two border agents from one line and therefore is 2x as fast.

Otherwise I stay here which includes valet parking and your car is always waiting for you in their lot when you return. Again it is about a 2 min ride from the hotel to your gate.

    Days Inn Detroit Metro Airport

For me it is an hour to yyz, not including the crazy traffic and 3 hours to dtw. The extra two hours drive is more than compensated by the duty free gas, cheap and convenient parking and super fast security (<5 min), never mind the extra cheap flights.

Yes spirit makes you pay for everything but then again you are only paying for what you use. I don't need bag of crappy peanuts or a pop on my flight and charging for carry ons actually means that the overhead bins aren't crammed with people's oversized bags and you can board and exit the plane in a reasonable time. Bag fees are a reality and if you arent paying them already then you are anyways in the cost of your ticket. At least I'm not subsidising the aholes who need to travel with 3+ bags and a carry-on.
  • For those that live in the Toronto area, Windsor is tough. If you only have four days and have to spend two nights in Windsor just to accomodate flight times and getting back and forth, its a pretty short trip. By the time I get checked in to my hotel, I have to head back to the airport to catch my flight. Sounds like most of my vacation would be spent in Windsor.

Don't think anyone is going to win this argument.

Nope, depends on where you live and what is important to you. Going to Vegas is not a business trip to me, its vacation baby! Therefore the whole trip is part of the experience. I'm never going for only 4 days. For me, and I only live 35 min from YYZ, it is much more fun and easier to go out of Detroit, especially with a group.
Pearson is just no fun, especially with it's long lines, rude security/staff, etc.
Buffalo used to be my choice but currently it is not that much cheaper than Pearson, especially considering our falling dollar.
  • Sounds like you are coming along comp?
  • Its vacation for me to that's why I dont want to deal with an eight hour drive.

Clearly you have no sense of adventure. Old before your time? ;)
  • If it were me and I had the time I would spend a few days looking around Detroit. There are some cool bohemian neighbourhoods popping up since the downfall and I would also love to take a walk through some of the huge plants that are now shut down...ghost towns are cool so ghost cities must be as well. The latter would be optional depending on the stabbing index.

If you watch Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown there is a very cool episode on Detroit. It is always great to experience new places and not just shuttle from a car to a plane and then to a hotel.

However, if all I wanted to do was relax in Vegas I'd just pop over to YYZ.

Comp, what dates are you going?
  • And this is why we need JETS at Billy Bishop. That way Porter can fly to Vegas.

Would love to but it is difficult for me these days, you would think I would have more spare time as I tried to retire 10+ years ago.. My own "part time" I/T business has grown exponentially, lol, hard to get enough coverage so I can get away. Also neither my wife or my mother have been well lately, man if it rains it... well you know the rest. Moose has also been hinting I should go and I should, just can't swing it at the moment, perhaps spring time? Are you planning on going? Would love to meet up with you again, in spite of the online battles I have at times with both you and Moose, I like you both.;)

    Well, not in that way...
  • a spring vegas trip with comp moose and GTA??

    IN!
  • moose can probably get us there for around 12 bucks all in...
comp can hack the slots for a few jackpots...
GTA can top it off with a vegas GABBBBAPAPBABABPAOAODALBBBBBBBO to make us even richer.

I guess I'll bring the snacks?
  • would be fun...if I buy a business it may be difficult to get away at first...but it's not that far so we will see
  • Spring is a no go for me. Week of family day in Feb works but so far no comped rooms. :(
