Nice cash game chips

Hey guys looking for some nice cash game chips that are not stickered, printed if possible. Looking for 25c, $1, $5, $25 in a nice carrying case. I am not looking for Vegas quality chips but not Walmart quality either somewhere above the middle. I don't even know where to start!

There are a couple of serious chip nerds on here that can probably point you in the right direction. Good starting point: check out this post by moose. (He's a bit of an ass but really knows his stuff.) :p :p :p

Our resident chip expert, moose, will probably chime in at some point.

    http://www.pokerforum.ca/f11/your-basic-primer-chips-32363/

It really depends on how much you are willing to spend. What's your price range? Do you want plastic, Chinese clay (CC), ceramic, clay (that's in order of cheapest to most expensive)?

I'm not sure what you mean by "not stickered, printed if possible". Ceramics are "printed" I guess, but most clay and CC have an inlay which is kind of like a sticker. There are also hot stamp options but those tend to be more expensive.

There are not a lot of options for decent poker chips in Canada to be honest unless you are willing to settle for the cheaper stuff. Some of us (more than others) are kind of chip snobs.

EDIT: Bfillmaff beat me to it ;)

I was just reading through that post, thanks guys. I will talk to moose next time i see him to get his opinion also. I am not a chip snob but I like the feel of casino chips in my hand and the way they stack (Motor City Casino) I have no problem dropping $300CDN on a nice 600 chip set in a case with racks. I don't know if $300 is way to cheap for a nice set like this but I don't even know where to start!

I liked the look of these

I got my first set from https://www.apachepokerchips.com/product-category/poker-chips/

I purchased a cash set of the Pharaoh's and I was very happy with them.

However, now I'm down the rabbit hole and own a lot more chips :D

moose's collection puts mine to shame though.

Wow that's a lot of chips :) Do you just have an acrylic holder and pick the chips you want to bring with you to any away games?

I am looking for a chip that has the denominations clear on the center of the chip. Some of them can be really noisy looking and almost impossible to read! I really like the look of the Monte Carlo chips though!!

Yes, I have a 1000 chip acrylic case to transport them in (actually I have two cases because I originally bought them to house my chips but once I accumulated so much it got upgraded to a cabinet).

I completely understand about wanting a chip that's easy to read. A lot of chips imho are way too "busy". I've never played with the Monte Carlos from apache, but along with the Pharaoh's I have used the Milanos, Scrolls and Dunes.

I dont want to fall down that rabbit hole just yet :) Just wnat a decent set i can use for a few years for some small home games 4-6 players cash and tournaments

I think I am really leaning towards the elite chips. This way I can use the same set for cash and for tournaments. Have you heard anything about these ones? Also do you know why some are 14g some are 8.5g? From reading moose's post the 8.5g are better standard weight?

Steve, run, run faster, and keep running, before you get sucked in like the rest and your chipsets are worth more than your house..:D

Elites are nice. I have Elite bounty chips. Definitely decent for the price.

Just a word of warning, there could be security issues with using the same chips for tournament and cash games.

Stay away from "14g real casino weight". Those are not good chips.

Don't get the Monte Carlo chips - they are plastic junk.

The Apache chips are nice. They are the only home market Paulson chips that you can buy.

But if you can come up with the money for those - extend a little farther and get these:

These are mint Paulson casino chips made for the rebranded Jack Detroit casino that never got put into play before the Jack casino was sold. These are the 'never have to buy another chip set' set. Top top top of the line obviously. But this is an almost once in a lifetime opportunity. Most casino sets that you can buy are in used condition. They are not cheap but quality and rareness makes this a worthwhile expense. If you can't swing the money, then get the Apache's.

And down the rabbit hole I go..... Thanks moose! Problem I have with this is what happens if I ever want to add on to my chips? I would never be able to find them again. It would be nice to find a set that I could add to over 5 years you know to get wife approval :) Is there such a thing? would the Apache set be available for more then a year to add on? I tried to call them and left him a message but got no call back yet. I am really looking towards the Apache Elite chips.. how do you feel moose about the 8.5 weight?

I agree they look really nice and clean!!

    8.5 is real weight

That's the thing about a real set of casino chips - they aren't going to make any more. But that being said there are probably at least 60k going up for sale, so they will be around but also they will hold their value.
  • MrCaspanMrCaspan Administrator
Yeah that's why I don't think I'll go with a casino set. I'd rather get a manufactured set that I can add on to later. I know the casino set is so much nicer, like really nice, but to get a .25/.25 set and 1/2 set might be a little too costly for me now.

Either that if I can win the Saturday free roll!! might be able to buy a set ;)
  • MrCaspanMrCaspan Administrator
Thanks moose, that's a decent price!
  • Card DeadCard Dead Sorry sir, I have 6 Aces!

Even with "off the rack" sets, adding on is difficult since the manufacturing process and die lots change over time, as I discovered with my Nile Club Ceramics.

And if you look on straightpoker.com right now they're selling off the last of their old batch of Crazy Horse because they're not quite the same as the new batch.
  • MrCaspanMrCaspan Administrator
Good point, thanks. I'll just save up so I can buy a complete set in one go! Thanks everyone!

Those are some beat up chips, wow!

Not going to find paulsons for cheaper though.

Clean them up and they'll look nice. Definitely on the cheap side for Paulsons.

Well used casino Paulson's, great for shuffling!

    2 racks of 1's, 3 racks of 5, Mixed rack of 25's and 100's for under 350USD.
  • MrCaspanMrCaspan Administrator
Yeah that is a great deal for sure.. I am still looking at the ones from here https://www.apachepokerchips.com/product/paulson-elite-poker-chips/ The site owner never returns my calls. But this is what I would like maybe if I win the Waterloo Poker Classic next month I can grab a set then start some summer cash games at my place

The elites are nice. If you come to my game you can check out the bounty chips in person ;)

These are Chinese compression clay chips not Paulson's but decent for the price. He would probably take $300 and I can pick them up in Detroit in two weeks.

    Cash set only is available
