Rediscovering poker

So recently I've actually found myself playing poker again =O... and i'm having alot of fun at this new home game.. it a smaller game 25c/50c sometimes 50c/$1 but it is just alot of fun with the group of players and making alittle spending money is nice too. I got real sick of the game to be honest playing the same old silly sit n gos and playing around the same grumpy crowds you get in casinos here.

Anyways unfortunately I still have one real big flaw in my game where I just cannot seem to give up on pots. I'll bet out and will get called and this only makes me stubborn and I will usually fire 2-3 bullets at a pot and as you can imagine this cuts into my profits quite a bit and I've taken some heavy losses a couple nights (all together I think for the 13 sessions or so I am up around $400?) how can I finally fix this?

  • If you are the one betting and getting called, it sounds like you are playing too many hands out of position. You fire, get called, now you either check or fire again. If you check, opponent probably bets and you have to fold.
Play more hands in position so you get more information about the hand
  • As DJ says plus mix your play up a bit more, get to know your opponents tendencies, ie don't bluff a calling station... Stubborness is one of the biggest leaks at a live table, either calling too much or (as you acknowledge you are doing) or just blindly betting. Have a plan... Profit!

If your avg session is say 6 hours times 13 sessions, that's about 80 hours or $5. per hr. 10BB hr is pretty good over a long period of time..
  • Thanks guys, sometimes yeah good to refresh on basics.. something have to really work on been thinking about this more and keeping more of my cool.. and the past 5 sessions have all been winning ones at the game.

What should a goal be? How many sessions out of say 10 should it be expected to win? Keeping track now i've won 12 of the 19 times i've played each game is a shorter one too i'd say on average 3 hours or so
