  • I just read over the team event. Its not a new concept but for a recreational players like myself its really going to make for an entertaining time with friends. Am I reading it correctly that its one fixed 1k entry for the entire team (opposed to 1K per person)?

    That is correct.
  • .....put me in coach
  • I'd love to play the tag team and have an impeccable record of 4/10 final tables and 2 outright victories out of 10 events here at Playground, but alas *if* I make it to Vegas at all, I'm targetting events a month earlier in the June 6-8 timeframe.
  • Now that the WSOP has started to copy Alexander Dreyfus in sportifying poker, I predict the new Tag Team event will be very popular.
Top 10 groups that should play the WSOP tag team event, including poker forum friends and home game friends.
  • It's really interesting to see how every other organization reacts to what the WSOP mandates. The WSOP may do some things wrong but it's doing something very right. The poker landscape has dramatically changed from a professional conducive landscape to a recreational friendly environment. Earlier start times, more of the field piad out, more chips (I know it's an illusion sometimes using patience factors but it's nice). In the end it's all about new little fishes entering the pond and having fun. I can say in all sincerity as a little fishy myself that its nice to see the changes.
  • This is question that I really need advice and perspective on:

If you could only play one $1500 WSOP bracelet event this year which event would it be and why?

Keep in mind the 15% of fields are getting paid this year so that may change your perspective.

The Monster Stack will have the biggest field.

For what one I would play, it would be whenever best suits me to travel to Vegas. There seems to be a $1500 event on almost every Saturday.

I always like getting your opinion Steve. I always respect that you treat the game like a pro and yet see the perceptive of a rec player. Better brush up on my Harrington before I enter the Monster.
  • SteveKerr agreed with me before that the Monster Stack would be one of the worst choices. In one of the best articles ever, top pro Jonathan Little explains why the Monster Stack event is bad for amateurs. Here is the list of choices I would give a buddy I cared about who is intent on spending on tournaments in Las Vegas instead of WSOP/WPT Montreal:

    1) Tax-free satellites, Survivor, & any other tournament where first place is <= $5K net.
    2) Low-rake events at Golden Nugget, Planet Hollywood, etc. structured to entice players away from WSOP.
    3) If it can only be a WSOP tournament, the best-value events to play are the $565 PLO, Casino Employees, Colossus; $888 Crazy Eights; $1K Tag Team, Seniors, and Ladies. Tag Team may be the most fun.
    4) If you force me to buy-in and light up exactly $1,500 on fire for as much play as possible, I would pick Summer Solstice. I would get pkrfce9 to first kiss the $1,500 cash goodbye and say,
"FU trigs. See you in hell!"
    >:D

All really good points Blondfish! I read that article before from Jonathan and it totally makes sense (read his professional tournament poker series, one of the best reads on varying stack play no one has explained medium stack late stage play better). The Monster and Solstice play directly into the hands of the better players. Although I had better tournament results then Perry Shiao before be binked the Monster Stack last year.

My event based on my current skill level would be event #45 Mixed No Limit/Pot Limit Omaha. Players like yourself and Steve will continuously punish me at straight NL. However I have a friend that drives ALL great straight NL players screaming from the Rio his name is......VARIANCE :D. Besides the fun factor of PLO its so much easier to bluff and range hands in PLO then NL. Its always funny to watch new PLO players pot bet the flop in middle position to only be called by 5 players (yes sir they all know you have naked AAxx with no redraw and now they will punish you).^-^

In all seriousness my only hope is trying neutralize a better players edge. In the end Blond your traveling the world playing poker and I'm neck deep in :bs:so what do I know!
  • If I were going to play a single $1,500 event I would pick Event #6 or #10. I definitely feel that bog-standard MTTs are the best value for a skilled amateur at the WSOP. Event #10 is nice because it's 6-Max, which effectively makes the structure a lot deeper than a full-ring tourney.

Plus when I win I'd have lots of time to plan a return trip for the ME or whatever.

Despite J Little's disagreement with me, I'd choose the Monsterstack.

It will draw in the biggest field....and in my thinking, the bigger the field, the greater percentage of inept players.

The pro to rec ratio in the monsterstack will be much better than any other tourney imo.
  • Thanks for the advice Mike. I know playing 9/10 is more "comfortable" for rec players but I have to admit I love the Metagame and aggression of 6-max when I'm online.
Can't wait to go back to playground.

The Monster Stack is probably the closest thing I'll ever be to the ME. As much of a dog as I am in this event me thinks this be the one.
  • Good luck!!
  • Good luck!!

Hi Pocket I'm not sure why you changed your words your initial words of motivation that I read before you changed it to "Good Luck". Thank you, I really like your positive attitude :)

  • LOL, I was going to reply to that post, but I'll wait until Monday, hopefully during another celebration meal.
