Losing Online Poker Player Snobbery Pet Peeve

Disclaimer: I completely agree that online play is way tougher then live play. Also, I know that a winning online player can easily beat a live game but not necessarily the other way around.

I've noticed a general trend with online players saying that live games are so soft and that they can crush live games and then you see that they're grinding with a $50 bank roll playing $0.01/0.02. They usually buy in way short in live games and get mad at players for making "incorrect" plays. These same players that disparage live players are usually break even at micro stakes online and they have no real experience with live.

Now, I completely agree that online games are way tougher then live games, but it is a completely different game. There are so many dynamics from live poker that aren't around for online. I've seen online "live is so weak" players looking so nervous and shaking while playing live and being upset when people call their raises of $8 pre-flop with pocket aces. Also I see them buying in for $40-80 at a time.

It bugs me because..if you are playing for penny stakes and you have no roll to back things up and have no record of success..you should not be looking down at other players live or online. Alot of these people are still at the beginning stages and they've read alot of poker concepts and know of them, but have no idea how to apply to their games. They think they do though....and somehow think they're better then other players.

Also, I am in no way looking down at micro stakes players...just the ones that are losing yet thinking they are better then anyone annoys me alot.

  • no one who grinds micros online is good, ever. All you can do is laugh and ignore what they say/do.

they are just fish, with fishy tendencies, sometimes you get a douche-fish who berates other players. but i dont think this is an online -> live player thing at all.

people as you describe exist at every level of the game and are generally not winning players. replace him with an old man with a coffee swearing at every other flop and berating the dealer, who also plays $2 SNG's online. These people just exist, i dont want to go to the extent and say they are good for the game, but id rather have them then someone like myself who generally is not there to donate.

Now where's darb when we need him... lol
  • For me personally, I have a problem with live poker, I feel less comfortable, less focused and making more mistakes playing live as well as not being used to the sizes and how people play such as flatting with KKs and QQs often which i find very weird. I'm still working on doing better live.

I feel i have a solid game online (mtts) although i just play low stakes and I've been doing decent at it.

I second that motion. I miss him and his insight, even thought we don't always agree.

Those Micro players that are winning (Yes micro players win at poker to and beat their stakes) are extremely robotic and are not adjusting just playing ABC poker and allowing others to make mistakes instead of trying to make those players make mistakes. (Such as taking different lines on similar board textures)

The Micro players will think that when they head to the Casino and play 1/2NL they will crush the games because people say that If you win online you can win live. The problem again is that those players are not adjusting (There is different pre-flop betting sizes live and online, which those players will give way 2 much credit for)

While your playing online @ .01/.02 or whatever the micros are you are playing ABC and not making plays vs others as they do not fold which I think double and triple barrels with hand selection are key for Live poker. Sure you can sit around and wait for AA in a 1/2 game and get a 6 way pot, but those live players want to see flops and usually turns as well which those Micro Players are not realizing. If I was playing Micros online I would play MUCH different than playing 1/2 Live...

Anyways yah Micro players are not that great and you need to realize for a micro player online to be playing a 1/2 live game it will be a ton of buyins for him/her to lose if he has to flip or get it in as a slight favorite they will try to avoid those spots.
  • Personally I feel alot more comfortable now playing live poker than online.. probably because i've finally found a spot where I really enjoy playing poker..

Online is weird to me, a much faster game but when I'm losing it feels like things take forever and I am always distracted..even losing a very small amount usually kind of pisses me off... unlike Live... its weird.
