fifty50 or double or nothing or whatever SNGs

this weekend i decided to play some SNGs and accidentally registered for a $7 fifty50 turbo on stars. after easily cashing in it i decided to play some more.

btw, these are a little different from other sites where you literally win double your buy-in. here's the breakdown of the payout method:

payout = buy-in minus fee + [(final chip count/total chips in play) * half of total prize pool

therefore, the more chips you finish with, the higher the payout.

does anyone play these regularly because they seem very easily beatable. i only played maybe 15-20 so not a big sample size obviously.

i found that out of your 9 opponents (it's a ten person table), usually you'll have maybe 2-3 that are uber aggressive and literally betting every hand and pushing all in for huge overbets, and the other 6-7 opponents sit there like uber nits until they have 5 BBs left and finally get dealt AK so they can push.

i haven't grinded SNGs in a while but these might convince me to do so. it also kind of feels good to be actually cashing more than 50% of the time lol

  • also, i've been trying to read some strategy on these types of SNGs and everything i find is hella-bad imho. i'm actually kind of glad that most people are playing these using those types of strategies - more money for me ;)
  • Wait until variance catches up to you. Ive played a ton of DON's on party. I went on a super heater at first. Thought they were really easy. Turns out I was running incredibly well. The downswings in these can be soul crushing.

what's your general strategy in playing these? i can't for the life of me find a single article that doesn't suggest playing very tight in these, and i don't think that a really tight style is a good strategy.

i may post my opinion on how to play these if i'm in the mood to hear how my SNG strategies are "not bad for 10 years ago".

btw, the double or nothings are slightly different from the fifty50s in payouts.

also, from what i've read (from yesterday and today) the variance in these is generally lower which i would think makes sense, but idk.

now i'm getting the itch to play a ton of these. it's been a while since i've really grinded sngs. i kind of miss it.
  • and here's one more post by me in my own thread.

    heeellllooooo out there....
