Helped play a 20k PLO hand...sort of

So, sat in on a $25/$50 game as observer. At this table nobody is really worried about collusion so they didn't mind when my buddy asked "What do you think?" For fun, showing me 9,8,5,4.

He had $3,900 behind, with average being about 10k.

There was a bit of raising utg, several had called including him for $600 before button potted it. Utg and one other player called.

My thoughts were that 2 players held big pairs and one a large wrap type hand.
He was going to need a little luck, but that they likely held a lot of each other's outs, so his hand would play well. It was 100% gamble, but given the pot size and that he wasn't deep, not a bad spot to shoot it.

I would for $39 in a 25/50 cent game, call it pulling a slot handle.

With that said, 4k is 4k and I figured he'd need a low straight to win. He hummed and hawed. Gambol, gambol!

It ran out high with one player calling for 3rd diamond and he hit 2 pair (9,8)

One player had aces, one queens, the other ace,x of diamonds and the board didn't pair.

He dragged a 20k pot!

If only it were that easy...still waiting to hear how rest of night went. Took a nice pic but need to upload later

Of course it could (and probably should) have easily ended up way different, was just happy to have read situation right.
